Mid Michigan Weather

Yesterday brought a rain event like we haven’t seen in a very long time.  We received a total of 2.05″.  The rain began about 7 PM and continued through the overnight with thunder.  We were lucky since many areas were affected by damaging winds also.  The Chesaning area, which is about 15 miles to our north, had many downed trees and even one collapsed barn.  We continue to have rain in the forecast today, so it doesn’t look like it…

A long line of thunderstorms are training over an area from Chicago to north of Toronto, Ontario.  We received an inch of rain in about 20 minutes a few hours ago, and light rain has continued since then.  Radar continues to show this line of storms moving from the SW to the NE and no sign of weakening at this time.  They are moving along I-69 and include Battle Creek, Lansing, and Flint.  A special weather statement was issued for…

We received a stray shower early this morning although it didn’t amount to much.  There was only 0.03″ in my gauge  at 8 AM, then another 0.02″ after that.   The radar looked like we should get a lot more, but it didn’t happen.  Right now (9:15 AM), the sky is clearing and the sun is shining.  It’s going to be another hot one.  We will be going up to the campground next week and I’m hoping that temps there will…

Yesterday, we thought for sure that we would get some much needed rain.  There was a large area of yellow/red cells on the radar from the early afternoon.  It moved very slowly toward us and didn’t near our area until almost midnight.  The problem was that when it finally approached us, it changed directions to the northeast.  We got the very bottom edge leaving only 0.01″ in my gauge.  What a disappointment.  The farmers around me have all planted, and…

Although our morning is sunny, there is a line of thunderstorms approaching from the northwest.  I’m not sure if they will hold together considering that our humidity is quite low, but they have continued through the overnight.  I guess we’ll find out in a few hours. We can expect our temps today to be unseasonably warm with our high near 90°F.  Last night was very warm with the low never falling much below 70°F.  Skies were clear all day and the humidity was quite low, so it really wasn’t too uncomfortable.  I normally don’t like it this hot, but as long as the air is dry, I can tolerate it.  There was a nice breeze  which was welcome, and it continued all night long.
