Another Sunny Autumn Day In Mid Michigan

Another Sunny Autumn Day In Mid Michigan

Today is a little cooler than yesterday but still very pleasant.  Some areas reported a little rain overnight and my weather station is showing one lightning strike 17 miles away.  That was a surprises since I wasn’t aware of any rain in the state.  Our high yesterday made it into the low 80s and I’m hoping that it continues until the rest of my tomatoes ripen.  I still have quite a few green ones on the vine. Our 1:15 PM…

A Summer-like Day For Mid Michigan

A Summer-like Day For Mid Michigan

Oh how I love days like this in the fall.  It is sunny, warm and breezy.  We had a few sprinkles of rain yesterday and there were clouds most of the day, and it was quite windy all night long.  Today looks to be almost perfect.  What’s even better is that this is supposed to last over the next week or so.  I’m loving our fall weather so far and hope it continues well into November. Our 12:30 PM temp…

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

Our weekend has been very nice for late September but we have very little color for this time of year.  Usually we have a few colored trees but I’m not seeing any so far.  Today has seen a mix of clouds and sun, and radar is showing rain to our northwest which seems to be heading in our direction.  There were a few sprinkles earlier today.  We certainly don’t need anymore rain and I hope it falls apart before reaching…

Finally, The Rain Has Stopped – Mid Michigan

Finally, The Rain Has Stopped – Mid Michigan

After 3 days of almost constant rain and 3.6 inches total, we can finally see the sun again.  Temperatures have cooled down significantly but will be back up to normal over the next two weeks.  At least that’s what they’re telling us now.  We have very little color so far which is quite unusual for the end of September.  I’m noticing a decrease in bird traffic at my feeders and all I’m seeing right now are catbirds and a few…

Steady Rain Continues In Mid Michigan

Steady Rain Continues In Mid Michigan

The rain has diminished somewhat but still coming down.  Over the past two days, we have received 2.86 inches and the flood watch continues until 11PM tonight.  We also have some fog developing.  The south eastern areas of lower Michigan have received most with some places getting close to 6 inches.  Highs will only reach the lower 50s today, but should be back to normal by the weekend. Our 3:45 PM temperature is 49°F (9°C), the humidity is 98%, and…

Flood Watch Remains In Effect – Mid Michigan

Flood Watch Remains In Effect – Mid Michigan

The rain began yesterday afternoon and intermittent heavy showers continued through the afternoon.  More steady rain developed overnight and there was 0.90″ in my gauge at 8AM.  It has been raining steadily since then.  I’m seeing on the CoCoRahs map that the Detroit area has received well over three inches in many places.  A flood watch is in effect until tomorrow morning.  Temperatures have cooled down considerably and highs today are expected to remain in the mid 50s. Our 9:30…

Flood Watch In Effect For Southern Michigan

Flood Watch In Effect For Southern Michigan

We are expecting very heavy rain over the next three days and a flood watch has been issued for most of southern lower Michigan.  We received a little rain so far but not enough to affect us.  Radar isn’t showing much as yet but my area is expecting up to three inches by Thursday.  The Detroit area is expecting up to six inches.  I wish this heavy rain would go west where the wildfires are.  They need it much more…

Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This In Mid Michigan

Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This In Mid Michigan

It’s time for cider mills and donuts once again.  This is my favorite time of year, especially when the weather has been like it has lately.  We continue to have summer-like temperatures and low humidity.  Conditions are dry and with these warm temps, I’m sure that the rest of my tomatoes will ripen.  We usually have to start bringing them indoors by this time to save them from frost.  I don’t think that will be an issue anytime soon.  Temps…

A Lovely Autumn Day In Mid Michigan

A Lovely Autumn Day In Mid Michigan

Today has been warm with just enough breeze to keep it comfortable.  The humidity is low and it’s a great day to just be outdoors.  We are starting to see some color in a few trees and this is why autumn is my favorite season.  I know that the official beginning of fall is still a few days off, but meteorologically  speaking, it’s here already.  The next week should see above-average highs and there is not much rain in our…

Another Stormy Day In Mid Michigan

Another Stormy Day In Mid Michigan

As we drove home from Indian River yesterday, we ran into some pretty impressive storm clouds.  We received a severe thunderstorm watch on the way, but didn’t see any of that.  I think that the southern portions of the state saw stronger storms than we did.  Sporadic rain showers was the best we had with little or no thunder.  Gusty winds were more of an issue.  There has been a lot of that this past summer.  In fact, I don’t…
