Another Day of Thunderstorms Along With Some Sun – Mid Michigan

Another Day of Thunderstorms Along With Some Sun – Mid Michigan

Have you ever noticed that these small cells of thunderstorms can be the most damaging?  They aren’t much more than a blip on the radar, but produce heavy rain, strong winds, and even tornadoes sometime.  That’s what happened yesterday.  We were under a weather advisory for a little while which  claimed that we had a significant storm heading our way which could produce damaging winds.  No warning, just an advisory.  Regardless, we did get a little rain from it but…

A Sunny Sunday After A Very Stormy Saturday In Mid Michigan

A Sunny Sunday After A Very Stormy Saturday In Mid Michigan

Yesterday was pretty nerve-racking as storm alert after storm alert came through on my phone.  It began as a severe thunderstorm watch, to a warning, then tornado warnings.  This went on for about 4 hours in the late afternoon.  Heavy rain accompanied this mess and 1.94″ of rain fell between yesterday morning and late last night.  Needless to say, most areas in southern Michigan are now under floor warnings.  We keep hearing more reports of tornado damage as the day…

Flood Watches And Warnings For Southern Lower Michigan

Flood Watches And Warnings For Southern Lower Michigan

We had light to moderate to heavy rain all day Friday with very few breaks.  Today hasn’t been quite as bad so far, but more heavy rain is predicted for later today.  There was 1.77″ of rain in my gauge this morning and my weather station is showing a total of 2.52″ over the past 48 hours.  The CoCoRahs map showed that some areas near Detroit and Ann Arbor got over 5 inches.  I’m also seeing that the western side…

Rain, Rain, and More Rain – Mid Michigan

Rain, Rain, and More Rain – Mid Michigan

While so many here in the state are saying how happy they are for the rain, I feel like we’re about to float away.  My weather station is now showing that we’ve received almost 4 inches of rain since June 1.  I realize that many areas haven’t been as lucky as us, but come on already, enough is enough.  It has been raining almost steady since I got up this morning, and we’re all getting cabin fever.  Radar is showing…

More Storms On The Way For Mid Michigan

More Storms On The Way For Mid Michigan

Once again, we face a day of storms coming out of the northwest.  Radar is showing a long line heading our way.  We certainly don’t need anymore rain in spite of those who claim that they haven’t gotten much lately.  I’m hearing that some areas are still considered to be drought stricken, but I really find it hard to believe.  Our morning is very breezy but temperatures are mild.  There is a light layer of clouds and filtered sun at…

Another Cool Summer Day In Mid Michigan

Another Cool Summer Day In Mid Michigan

Today is much like yesterday, cloudy, cool with scattered rain showers.  Our extended forecast is calling for rain almost every day over the next week.  We are supposed to be in a drought but you could fool me.  Our temperatures are well below where they should be and I wouldn’t mind the cool temps if only the sun was out.  Rain has been off and on all morning and I’m once again hearing it on my sky light.  I heard…

Much Cooler In Mid Michigan For The Start Of Summer

Much Cooler In Mid Michigan For The Start Of Summer

After a cloudy, blustery day on Monday, the first day of summer, our Tuesday is much more pleasant.  We did have a few sprinkles of rain on Monday but not enough to measure.  Winds were the big issue with gusts up to 30  mph at times.  It got very chilly at night with some places dipping into the 30s for the low.  My weather station showed our overnight low as 40°F.  Highs today aren’t even expected to reach 70°F, so…

After A Stormy Sunday, We Have A Much Cooler Monday – Mid Michigan

After A Stormy Sunday, We Have A Much Cooler Monday – Mid Michigan

Sunday began with very warm temperatures and partly cloudy skies.  We were warned early that some possible severe weather would end our day.  A severe thunderstorm watch was issued late in the afternoon with storms expected from 8 PM until after midnight.  Some of these storms looked impressive on radar, but all we got was a lot of thunder and lightning and heavy rain.  Our southern counties weren’t as lucky and I’m hearing that there was quite a bit of…

Massive Thunderstorm Hit Indian River Area Overnight

Massive Thunderstorm Hit Indian River Area Overnight

After a very dry period in Michigan’s north country, massive, heavy thunderstorms moved across the state overnight dropping over an inch of rain in many areas.  Red flag warnings were issued over the past week with the fire danger very high, so this rain was very badly needed.  The storm brought very heavy rain, constant thunder and lightning, and lasted about an hour and a half.  Yesterday was very warm and temperatures didn’t cool off until the storms rolled shortly…

A Beautiful Morning In Indian River

A Beautiful Morning In Indian River

We drove up yesterday with sun most of the way.  After reaching the campground, we decided to head into Cheboygan to get something to eat.  Then we went to the in-law’s cabins to visit for a while.   The sun was out this entire time.  On the way back to the campground, we noticed that everything was wet.  There had been a downpour while we were gone and all of our chairs and rugs were soaked.  There wasn’t even any rain…
