August 29 Tornado Stronger Than First Thought – Mid Michigan

August 29 Tornado Stronger Than First Thought – Mid Michigan

The New Lothrop tornado was first evaluated as an EF0.  I think that it will be more like an EF2 after all assessments are done.  There is every bit as much damage as what was done by the March 20th tornado that struck my area.  This just shows that anytime a severe TS waning is issued, one must be prepared for tornadoes as well.  This tornado formed so quickly that there was no time to issue any warnings,.  Thankfully there…

Significant Thunderstorms For Our Thursday Night – Mid Michigan

Significant Thunderstorms For Our Thursday Night – Mid Michigan

There were a line of thunderstorms which crossed over the state from the northwest late yesterday leaving 0.62″ of rain in my gauge.  Severe TS warnings were issued well into the storm and by that time we could determine that for ourselves.  A weak tornado was even confirmed just east of New Lothrop shortly after 9 PM and that was about the time that we got it here.  There was heavy rain, pea sized hail, strong winds and plenty of…

Possibly, The Last Of Our 80° Weather – Mid Michigan

Possibly, The Last Of Our 80° Weather – Mid Michigan

We should see highs near 80° today, then another cool down.  I received an alert from one of my weather apps that severe weather is possible for my area tonight.  The high school football season is starting tonight so this is not a good forecast for our football players.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate until the games are over.  This morning is very cool with temps in the 50s when I got up, but they are warming up quickly.  Skies…

No More Hot Weather We Are Told – Mid Michigan

No More Hot Weather We Are Told – Mid Michigan

Local meteorologists are saying that this cool down will probably be permanent, and temperatures reaching into the 80s will be few and far between.  I’m hoping that they’re wrong although I love the 70s.  This has been a strange August.  We are usually baking in high temperatures, high humidity, and high dew points.  This year has been an exception.  We received a little rain overnight which we really needed, and I see that northern Michigan did also.   They were really…

Cool And Mostly Cloudy For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

Cool And Mostly Cloudy For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

I’m loving this cool weather.  It’s just perfect for opening the windows and airing out the house.  Highs today should reach the mid to upper 70s and a nice breeze.  It just doesn’t get any better than that. Our 2 PM temperature is 75°F (24°C), the humidity is 55%, and winds are from the southeast at 7 mph.  The pressure is 30.21 in and falling.  Skies are mostly cloudy.  The dew point is 58°F (14°C) and visibility is 10 miles. …

Much Cooler Weather For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Much Cooler Weather For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Our lows last night fell into the 40s in some areas which is really cool for this date.  Right now, it is only 71°F and I don’t think it will get much warmer as the day goes on.  It’s even too chilly to open the windows.   If the sun wasn’t shining, it would be uncomfortable.  That’s okay.  I’ll take this over the 90s anytime.  This isn’t an end to our summer weather as we should be back i the 80s…

Back Home After A Week In Northern Michigan

Back Home After A Week In Northern Michigan

We had an uneventful drive home yesterday after a week of very nice weather up north.  Conditions there are very dry and they really need rain, but we were happy that the week saw very little while we were there.  I always hate coming home but we’ll be going back again in late September.  Our temperatures have really cooled off and highs today are expected to only reach the low to mid 70s.  Our local weatherman has assured us that…

Our August Camping Trip Is Almost Done – Northern Michigan

Our August Camping Trip Is Almost Done – Northern Michigan

I can’t believe how quickly this past week has gone.  Our weather has been much nicer than at home.  It was quite stormy in southern Michigan once again with various severe storm warnings issued.  It seems, however, that most was thunder and lightning with very little rain.  Strangely enough, the humidity remained low and I think that most of the storms dried up quite a bit before reaching our county.  I’m seeing that a few areas received over an inch…

Tuesday, August 20 In Northern Michigan

Tuesday, August 20 In Northern Michigan

We had another beautiful day on Monday here at our campground.  There was a nice breeze and temperatures were just right.  I didn’t even need the AC until late in the day.  Our new trailer has a lot of windows which reduces the need for the AC and I’m happy about that.  Today’s high should be well into the 80s and no rain in the forecast: Our 9:30 temperature is 67°F (19°C), the humidity is 78% and skies are clear. …

A Sunny Start To The Week In Northern Michigan

A Sunny Start To The Week In Northern Michigan

After a stormy Sunday in much of the state, our Monday is beginning with cool temperatures and plenty of sun.  We received a few quick showers on Sunday but that was all.  The Detroit area had quite a few heavy storms but they all missed the Durand area.   There is no rain in our forecast today so it should be a good day. Our 10 AM temperature is 70°F (21°C), the humidity is 57%, and winds are from the west…
