Rainy And Cold In Mid Michigan

Rainy And Cold In Mid Michigan

After an extended period of beautiful autumn weather, we now have the opposite.  Even the extended forecast doesn’t look too good with the possibility of rain almost every day.  Yesterday wasn’t too bad with mostly cloudy skies but it was dry.  We received 0.11 in of rain overnight and radar is showing that it will probably be the order of the day.  Temperatures will continue to be below average over the next week but the fall colors are really starting…

More Seasonable Weather Ahead For Michigan

More Seasonable Weather Ahead For Michigan

Camping Season ended for us yesterday.  We had to pack up in the rain which is never fun, and our drive home was in rain most of the way.  Temperatures are now much cooler but our last 10 days up north were great weather-wise.  There was no rain until yesterday and that’s quite unusual for late September in Michigan.  Temperatures were above normal for most of it but that will change this week.  In fact, there is a good chance…

Perfect Autumn Weather For Our Final Week In Northern Michigan

Perfect Autumn Weather For Our Final Week In Northern Michigan

Today was supposed to be cloudy and wet, but there has been no rain so far and the chances have been reduced.  We couldn’t have had nicer weather for our final week here.  Temperatures were mostly mild and yesterday felt like summer.  Everyone here was wearing shorts and kids were busy on their scooter, skate boards and bikes.  There is usually hardly any activity here at the season end.  I hate to see it end, but next week is predicted…

An Interesting Phenomenon In Cheboygan Yesterday

An Interesting Phenomenon In Cheboygan Yesterday

Yesterday was a clear, beautiful day here in the Indian River area.  We took a drive to Cheboygan late afternoon, and as we approached the in-law’s cabins, we saw what appeared to be heavy dark smoke.  As we got closer, we realized that it was fog coming in off Lake Huron.  It remained within 1 mile of the shoreline and engulfed the cabins.  My picture is showing their beach area (what’s left of it.)  They lost about 100 feet of…

Seasonable Temps Have Returned to Northern Michigan

Seasonable Temps Have Returned to Northern Michigan

This will be our last week here at the campground and at least the warmer weather has returned.  There is no rain expected anytime soon and that’s always a good thing this time of year.  We are seeing a little color but not much at this point.  The days are noticeably shorter and it is darker in the morning now.  Another camping season is coming to an end. Our temp here in Topinabee is 66°F (19°C), the humidity is 63%,…

Last Week At Our Campground.

Last Week At Our Campground.

After a few very cold days, temperatures today should be reaching near normal.  I’m not sure if there was frost here.  I didn’t see any but my in-laws at the cabins said that there was some there, and their son in Gaylord reported heavy frost there also.  My son said that we were under a frost advisory at home, so he went out and picked the remaining tomatoes.  I’m hoping that I still get a few more zucchinis yet but…

Possibly Our Last Summer-Like Day – Mid Michigan

Possibly Our Last Summer-Like Day – Mid Michigan

My picture shows what our sky looks like with the smoke from the western wildfires.  It isn’t expected to affect our temperatures today, however.  Expected highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.  Looking forward to next week, the highs on some days will struggle to reach 60F.  We’ll be going to our campground for the last time tomorrow, and will stay until the end of the month.  It’s time to pack everything away once again for…

Smoke Filled Skies But Otherwise Clear – Mid Michigan

Smoke Filled Skies But Otherwise Clear – Mid Michigan

It is very chilly this morning and skies are clear, but smoke from the western fires give the appearance of a light layer of clouds.  I turned the furnace on and let it run one cycle just to get the chill out of the air.  We’ll be heading up north for the last time in a few days, then camping season will be over for another year.  I enjoy going up there in September.  Many of the campers will already…

Feels Like Fall In Mid Michigan

Feels Like Fall In Mid Michigan

Yesterday wasn’t a bad day although a bit windy.  We didn’t see much sun but temperatures were quite mild.  Today will be a bit cooler with highs only expected in the mid 60s.  We are starting to see a little color in the trees and bushes now and there is a heavy dew every morning.  It won’t be long until that heavy dew will be frost.  The flower gardens are losing their color and the vegetable garden is almost done…

An Appreciated Warm Up For Mid Michigan

An Appreciated Warm Up For Mid Michigan

There is rain moving in from the west but so far, it has stayed to our west and north.  Forecasts are calling for it to move into our area later today.  I hope it just misses us entirely.  We don’t need anymore rain.  I wish we could sent it to the western US where those terrible wildfires are.  I just read where four people were arrested for deliberately setting four of them.  Why would anyone do that? Our 10:15 AM…
