Severe Weather A Real Possibility in Mid Michigan
Heavy thunderstorms moved over the eastern half of the lower peninsula yesterday morning and afternoon, dropping as much as 5 inches of rain in some areas near Detroit. It was a cool day until late in the afternoon when it cleared up a bit. That’s when it really got hot. Highs were in the upper 80s to 90 degrees, but our heat index was 115°F due to the high dew point. Local weather gurus said that it is a rarity to have a due point that high here in Michigan. I don’t think that today will be much better, and severe thunderstorms are in our forecast. Hopefully there isn’t much damage.
Our 12 Noon temperature is 75°F (24°C), the humidity is 84%, and skies are overcast. Winds are from the SSW at 7-14 mph, and the dew point is 67°F (19°C). The pressure is 29.79 in (1008.0 mb) and steady. Visibility is 9 miles. Our Air Quality Index is good at 30, and the UV Index is low at 1. Yesterday’s high was 87°F (31°C) and the overnight low was 70°F (21°C). We received 0.04″ of rain yesterday morning, but all the afternoon storms missed us. Sunrise was at 6:53 AM and sunset will be ata 8:27 PM.
