I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Windy But Mild . . . .

Windy But Mild . . . .

If you can ignore the wind, it really isn’t a bad day weather wise.  Unfortunately, the winds are still very strons and blow away any heat that we get from the little sun that there is.  But compared to last week, it is a very big improvement.  We did see a few peeks of the sun and hopefully we’ll see more as the day goes on. Our 12 noon temperature is 35°F (2°C), the humidity is 68%, and winds are…

Milder Weather Coming Soon . . . .

Milder Weather Coming Soon . . . .

We continue to have about 3 inches of snow cover but it won’t be around long.  There is a substantial warmup on the horizon for us in early February.  I’m hoping that it lasts all month.  I’m ready for some spring-teaser weather.  We’re beginning to see more days coming with highs above freezing, so the snow should be dwindling away a little at a a time. Our 12:30 PM temperature is 31°F (-1°C), the humidity is 73%, and winds are…

Wind Advisory Continues . . . .

Wind Advisory Continues . . . .

Although it is very windy, it isn’t a bad day if you don’t have to be outdoors.  The sun is out and it’s warm enough that we should lose a little snow.  Skies have been clear all morning but now some high level  clouds are starting to appear.  There is snow in our forecast for later. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 34°F (1°C), the humidity is 50%, and winds are from the SW at 17-28 mph.  The pressure is 29.55…

Another Beautiful Day . . . .

Another Beautiful Day . . . .

Today should be great, but tomorrow will be much different.  We are under a wind advisory from 10 AM tomorrow until  8 PM.  Temps will be a little cooler today but with the sun, it will still be very pleasant.  We had half an inch of new snow this morning but it has since melted away. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 30°F (-1°C), the humidity is 66%, and skies are clear.  Winds are from the W at 4-12 mph, and…

Lotsa Sun, Mild Temps . . . .

Lotsa Sun, Mild Temps . . . .

Our sky is perfectly clear right now.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen that.  Our temperature is even above freezing, and it’s still early.  Maybe we’ll see the high rise more than what was predicted.  We have about 3.5″ of snow cover.  It’s very pleasant to look out the window for a change.  Yesterday wasn’t too bad.  We did have a few flurries in the morning, and then the sky partially cleared, but temperatures were still very chilly.  Today…

A Little Warmer With A Little Sun . . . . .

A Little Warmer With A Little Sun . . . . .

Our weather has improved from what has been, and temperatures will continue to rise over the next week.  I’m not sure how soon we’ll see any thawing, but at least I think we’re done with the single digit highs for a while.  We started the day with cloudy skies and snow flurries.  Now there is quite a bit of blue sky and sun.  That will raise our spirits is nothing else. Our 1:30 PM temperature is 20°F, the humidity is…

Never Ending Snow . . . .

Never Ending Snow . . . .

I think we’ve had snow everyday for the past 2 weeks.  It’s never very much, just enough where I have to go out and shovel.  We have three inches on the ground at this time and there is snow falling right now.  At least our deep freeze seems to have come to an end, and hopefully won’t return.  I’m ready for spring. Our 10:15 AM temp is a balmy 21°F (-6°C), the humidity is 91%, and skies are cloudy with…

We Think We Have It Bad . . . .

We Think We Have It Bad . . . .

We complain about how cold it is, but northern Florida has 7 inches of snow.  They literally don’t know how to act.  The roads are a glare of ice and the freeways are shut down.  Their temps are below freezing so not much is melting so far.  They don’t have road salt and very few snow plows.  I’m hearing that Indiana is sending some plows down there.  As for us, last night was one of the coldest that we’ve had…

Look What’s Happening In The Deep South?

Look What’s Happening In The Deep South?

I’m sure all the snowbirds are in shock this morning.  Northern Florida is seeing temps near freezing and the possibility of a few inches of snow.  Same with the other southern states.  As for us, we’re still in the deep freeze but this should be our coldest day.  Then it starts getting better tomorrow.  I’m still not seeing any highs above freezing coming anytime soon, however.  But it is January after all.  I’ll leave it at that. Our 10:15 AM…

Very Cold, Light Lake Effect Snow . . . .

Very Cold, Light Lake Effect Snow . . . .

We have very frigid temps today with highs only expected to remain in the single digits.  Besides that, we have light lake effect snow showers.  So it feels like a very January day.  On this inauguration day, Washington DC is also very cold and I hope that all attending the festivities are dressed warm.  I’m happy that I’m watching it on my TV in a warm room. Our 1:30 PM temperature is 10°F (-12°C), the humidity is 81%, and winds…
