I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Springlike Weather . . . .

Springlike Weather . . . .

Although our temperatures are very warm for this date, the day is gloomy and quite windy.  It feels like a day in March instead of December.  But it won’t last long as another round of frigid weather will be upon us soon.  This is typical for Michigan in winter.  Our coldest, stormiest days usually happen in January and February, so we better enjoy today. Our 12 Noon temperature is 53°F (12°C), the humidity is 77%, and skies are overcast.  Winds…

Feels Like Spring . . . .

Feels Like Spring . . . .

It is very mild today and quite pleasant to be outdoors.  We do have a chance for rain later, but no precip at this time.  There was a bit of drizzle yesterday which left  0.02″ in my gauge, and tomorrow could be wet as well.  Early next week is expected to be on the warm side right through New Years Day.  I’m hearing that January is expected to be a snowy month.  We’ll see how that works out. Our 12:15…

Mild But Dreary . . . . .

Mild But Dreary . . . . .

We haven’t had any precip but the warm temps are quickly melting what snow we have left.  The upcoming week is expected to be mild, before the next blast of frigid air moves over us.  There is a chance of rain everyday but it could reach 50°F on Saturday.  No sun expected anytime soon. Our 1:15 PM temperature is 39°F, the humidity is 98%, and skies are overcast.  Winds are from the SE at 3-4 mph.  The pressure is 29.00…

Christmas Day . . . . .

Christmas Day . . . . .

I guess we could say that we have a white Christmas.  We have no fresh snow but none of our existing snow has melted, so we continue to have about an inch of snow cover left.  The past two days never got as warm as expected.  Even today isn’t going to get up to where they said it would, but the weekend could see temps as high as 50°F.  I guess we’ll have to wait and see about that….

Christmas Eve In Michigan . . .

Christmas Eve In Michigan . . .

Yesterday was messy, with rain, then freezing rain, and finally snow late.  Roads were slippery in spots but weren’t too bad after salting.  Today hasn’t brought any precipitation and temperatures are hovering right around freezing.  It isn’t too bad of a day weather-wise. Our 1:15 PM temperature is 36°F, the humidity is 85%, and skies are overcast.  Winds are WNW at 2-4 mph, and the pressure is 29.98 in and steady.  The dew point is 30°F and visibility is 10…

Warming Up For The Holidays . . . .

Warming Up For The Holidays . . . .

Today starts our week of much warmer weather.  We should lose a lot of snow today although we only have about an inch on the ground.  We could see a messy weather pattern today with mixed precip for our area.  North of us is expecting up to 7 inches of new snow.  We are supposed to get maybe an inch. Our 10 AM temperature is 28°F, the humidity is 77%, and skies are overcast.  Winds are from the S at…

Our Coldest Day This Season . . . .

Our Coldest Day This Season . . . .

The first day of winter certainly came in with a dramatic blast of cold air.  My weather station showed an overnight low below zero.  Yesterday was frigid but we should start seeing a warm-up tomorrow.  We will get a week’s reprieve from the cold before the next blast of cold air comes.  But by that time it will be January, and it’s supposed to be like that in January, isn’t it? Our 12:45 PM temperature is 24°F, the humidity is…

In The Deep Freeze Once Again On This First Day Of Winter. . . . .

In The Deep Freeze Once Again On This First Day Of Winter. . . . .

Once again, our temperatures are much below average and will continue so through the weekend.  Then another significant warm-up is coming and is expected to last right into the New Year.  So a white Christmas is out of the question for us this year.  Oh well!  I know that will cause a lot of mixed feeling for many.  As for me, I’m okay with it.  At least the roads will be good for traveling. Our 10:30 AM temperature is 23°F…

We Have Snow As Promised . . . .

We Have Snow As Promised . . . .

Snow began late last night and continued all night.  It wasn’t heavy and only dropped 1.5 inches of snow.  It has continued all morning, and now we have about 2 inches on the ground.  I wish this would have waited until next Wednesday, but it is what it is.  Maybe Mother Nature will surprise us and the weather gurus will be wrong.  I want snow for Christmas. Our 12:15 PM temperature is 32°F  (0°C), the humidity is 95%, and winds…

More Snow Coming . . . .

More Snow Coming . . . .

Another gloomy day and much colder temperatures.   We are expecting a little snow later on, maybe about an inch or two.  I’m hearing that a big warm-up is coming for Christmas and will last through New Years Day.  I have mixed feeling about that.  I love a white scenario for Christmas but it’s been a while since we’ve had a good snow cover for Christmas.  It doesn’t look like it will happen this year either. Our 12:45 PM temp is…
