I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Cold And Cloudy . . . . .

Cold And Cloudy . . . . .

Today, temperatures will rise to right around freezing, then another significant warmup will arrive.  We could see temps reaching near 60F by Wednesday before another bout of cold air comes.  It’s that time of year where Mother Nature gives us a taste of spring, but just a teaser.  Unfortunately, the temp variants also can bring tornadoes and other severe weather.  Michigan’s tornado season is usually May and June, although they can happen any time of the year.  The last two…

Very Cold, Windy . . . . .

Very Cold, Windy . . . . .

We have very cold, blustery weather this weekend.  Highs yesterday did reach into the 50s, but the wind blew most of the heat away.  Today won’t be as warm, and the wind chills will be brutal.  We could also see some snow showers, but right now, the sun is trying to shine.  I’m not expecting it to last long.  Most of the snow is gone except for some patches. Our 10:45 AM temperature is 20°F, the humidity is 62%, and…

A One-day Warmup . . . .

A One-day Warmup . . . .

Today will bring temps near 50F, but it will become blustery by the afternoon.  There’s a wind advisory until 5PM.  There was a little rain in my gauge this morning, but barely enough to matter.  We could see a little sun this afternoon but with the strong winds, it will blow most of the warmth away. Our 1PM temperature is 46°F, the humidity is 67%, and skies are cloudy.  Winds are from the south at 8-20 mph, and the pressure…

Another Gloomy Day . . . .

Another Gloomy Day . . . .

I know that those few sunny days can really spoil us, but we can’t expect many this time of year.  Mother Nature does give us a treat from time to time.  With the two days of  50 degree weather, we did lose a lot of our snow.  I figure that between the bare spots and where the snow remains, we have about an inch of ground cover.  We did have a snow shower yesterday, but later it became all rain. …

Cloudy And Cool . . . .

Cloudy And Cool . . . .

We lost our spring-like weather.  Now we have clouds and precip is showing on radar but no sign of it yet.  The past two days brought highs in the low 50s and that got rid of much of our snow.  Ground cover is now about 50%, and where there still is snow, it’s only 1-2 inches deep.  We are supposed to get some mixed precip later, but not much accumulation is expected. Our 1:30 PM temperature is 40°F (4°C), the…

Wonderful February Weather . . . .

Wonderful February Weather . . . .

We have had another beautiful day with mild temps and plenty of sun.  Highs yesterday and today have risen higher than predicted, and much of our snow cover is gone.  Where there is snow remaining measures at about 1-2 inches.  Skies have been clear most of our day but now some clouds have moved in, but not enough to infringe on the sun.  The next few days will be cooler with rain expected through Thursday. Our 4:30 PM temp is…

Sunny And Mild . . . .

Sunny And Mild . . . .

It’s a beautiful day.  Temps were already in the upper 30s when I got up and my weather station is showing 50°F right now, but I think it’s only because the sensor is in the sun.  But that’s okay.  I’ll take it.  I see water dripping off the roof and most of the snow/ice on the deck is gone.  The only negative thing that I can say is that we do have pretty strong winds which make it feel chilly. …

A Little Warm-Up . . . .

A Little Warm-Up . . . .

Each day gets a little warmer and temps this coming week should reach into the 40s every day.  I’m ready for it.  We have had snow cover almost all of February and I’m ready for it to melt.  Today will only reach the mid 30s, then  the 40s starting tomorrow.  Rain is expected by mid week, but that will help melt the snow. Our 10:15 AM temperature is 32°F (0°C), the humidity is 71%, and skies are cloudy.  We have…

Somewhat Mild . . . .

Somewhat Mild . . . .

Our day began with sun, but now clouds have taken over.  Temperatures are right around freezing but not much thawing is happening.  We should see more next week.  Otherwise, it is a quiet day weather-wise and not a bad one to be out and about. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 33°F (1°C), the humidity is 52% and winds are from the SW at 6-13 mph.  Skies are cloudy and the pressure is 29.84 in (1010.5 mb) and falling.  The dew…

Sunny And Warmer . . .

Sunny And Warmer . . .

It is actually pleasant to be outdoors today.  The wind isn’t too bad and the sun actually feels warm.  There is a little thawing, even though the temperature is around freezing, but the sun is quite warm.  It will continue to get warmer each day from now on, and most of us are ready for it.  Highs should reach well into the 40s by Wednesday.  There will still be the chance for rain or snow however. Our 2:30 PM temperature…
