I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Snowy, Drizzly And Dreary . . . .

Snowy, Drizzly And Dreary . . . .

Today will be wet and nasty with a mix of snow flurries and drizzle.  We have a very light cover of snow which will be melting soon.  Temperatures will rise just enough to melt the little snow that we have, but more is expected later.  Then frigid weather moves in for our weekend.  I saw Ryan Hall’s forecast for the holidays, and it seems like a white Christmas for us in out of the question.  In fact, there is a…

Another Round Of Frigid Air . . . . .

Another Round Of Frigid Air . . . . .

Temperatures are starting to drop with our high for the day happening this morning.  More very cold air will be moving in for the weekend and we still aren’t sure about Christmas yet.  I’m hearing different possibilities.  I guess it’s a wait and see scenario. Our 2:15 PM temp is 38°F, the humidity is 79%, and winds are from the west at 3-10 mph.  The wind chill is 35°F.  The pressure is 29.83 in and rising, and the dew point…

Drizzly But Mild . . . .

Drizzly But Mild . . . .

The day began with fog, but now we just have overcast skies and intermittent drizzle.  This is a break in the frigid weather that we’ve been having but more very cold temps are on the way.  From what I’m hearing, we may be in for a white Christmas, but we’ll have to keep on top of that for now.  This will be the warmest day that we’ll have for a while so enjoy. Our 1 PM temperature is 48°F, the…

Wet But Warmer . . . .

Wet But Warmer . . . .

We had a little rain overnight, only 0.09″ in my gauge.  There may have been some freezing rain but I didn’t see any sign of it.  The temperature was already well above freezing when I got up and my deck wasn’t slippery at all.  That was nice.  Now it is just cloudy and dreary and will probably be this way all day.  I’m just happy for the warmer temperatures. Our 11 AM temp is 37°F, the humidity is 96%. and…

Another Brief Warm-Up . . .

Another Brief Warm-Up . . .

We should start seeing our temperatures moderate a bit with highs possibly rising into the 50s on Monday.  Last night was another cold one with lows in the single digits once again.  The little snow that we have hasn’t gone anywhere, but I expect that to change today.  Highs should rise above freezing for the first time in three days.  Unfortunately with the warmer air will come rain, even freezing rain is possible. Our 12:15 PM temperature is 30°F, the…

Very Cold But A Little Sun . . . .

Very Cold But A Little Sun . . . .

We have about half an inch to an inch of snow cover right now, and even with the sun, nothing is melting.   My poor dog doesn’t want to go out, even with the nice coat that she has, because the frosty snow burns her little feet.  I went out and shoved a path for her.  Hopefully, it will melt a little where I shoveled.  If not today, then tomorrow for sure. We have another warm up coming for the weekend…

Our Coldest Day This Season . . . .

Our Coldest Day This Season . . . .

This morning is very cold with overnight lows fallen into the single digits.  It was  9°F when I go up at 8:30, and it hasn’t warmed up much since then.  Thankfully this cold spell isn’t going to last long and we will see temperatures back in the 40s by the weekend. We just had a new furnace installed yesterday which took most of the day.  I’m glad it wasn’t today since we were without heat for about 8 hours. Our…

Blustery Weather On The Way . . . .

Blustery Weather On The Way . . . .

Our morning has been quiet, but we have some stormy weather coming our way.  I’m already seeing a few flurries flying, and conditions will continue to get worse as the day rolls on.  Winter storm warnings are up for the western and northern portions of the state, and even though we aren’t included, we are still expecting up to two inches of snow.  That’s enough to make driving hazardous.   Wind will also be an issue with gusts possible over 30…

Dreary And Dry . . . .

Dreary And Dry . . . .

The weather today is nothing great but at least it isn’t raining or snowing.  Even the wind isn’t too strong, so I guess we can’t really complain.  We went out shopping and came back home with the plan to go later.  I forgot that this is Christmas season and the stores are a madhouse.  I don’t do well in crowds in my old age. That’s why I do most of my shopping on line anymore.  The next two days won’t…

A Wet But Mild Day . . . .

A Wet But Mild Day . . . .

After a very pleasant Sunday, our Monday is damp, but the temperatures are very mild.  Overnight drizzle has continued but is supposed to end early this afternoon.  We’re still waiting for that to happen.  There was 0nly 0.05″ in my rain gauge at 8:30 and light rain has continued since.  It’s a dark and dreary day so far. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 49°F, the humidity is 88%, and winds are from the SW at 5-8 mph.  The pressure is…
