I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Polar Bear Weather . . . .

Polar Bear Weather . . . .

I think polar bears would love our weather but not us so much.  It is extremely cold and I’m glad I don’t have to go out in it.  The sun is peeking through a little and we have had a few snow showers earlier today.  The wind is making it unbearable to be out for more than a few minutes.  I’m just happy that it will be warming up about Thursday. Our 3:30 PM temperature is 16°F (-9°C), the humidity…

No More Mild Weather For A While . . . .

No More Mild Weather For A While . . . .

The next several days will be very frigid with highs only in the single digits and lows below zero.  Fortunately, it won’t last but just a couple of days.  There is no snow in our forecast anytime soon either so my deck should stay clear for a while. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 28°F (-2C), the humidity is 66%, and winds are from the NW at 6-15 mph.  Skies are cloudy and we received just a trace of rain over…

A Little Sun Before the Misery . . . .

A Little Sun Before the Misery . . . .

Today looks to be one of our more pleasant days before the deep freeze.  Highs should reach above freezing and we could see quite of bit of sunlight.  Right now, we have a thin cloud cover and filtered sun.  Winds aren’t too strong yet but are expected to pick up through the afternoon.  I’m hoping that at least all the snow will melt where we shoved on the deck before more snow arrives tonight. Our 10:45 temp is 32°F, the…

Just More Of The Same . . . .

Just More Of The Same . . . .

There is no change in our weather from the past several days.  Mornings begin with cloudy skies, then some clearing and a little sun in the afternoon.  I’m not sure if we’ll see any sun today, but regardless, it won’t do much to warm it up if we do.  So for now, we’re stuck with typical January weather.  The next two days should make it above freezing anyway.  Then next week . . . .. . . UGH!  Need I…

Clearing Skies This Afternoon . . . .

Clearing Skies This Afternoon . . . .

Today was much like yesterday.  It began with cloudy skies and snow flurries, then cleared up for the afternoon.  Our temps were a bit warmer today, but with the wind, it didn’t feel like it.  There was a little thawing on my deck but not enough to really matter.  Tomorrow and Friday will be above freezing, but only to be followed by much colder temperatures next week. Our 5:15 PM temperature is 22°F, the humidity is 73%, and skies are…

Another Snow Day . . .

Another Snow Day . . .

We have yet another day with intermittent snow showers and cloudy skies.  I’m getting tired of shoveling, even though the snow amounts aren’t much.  We have about 3 inches of snow cover at this time, and we seem to gain an inch every day.  Thursday and Friday should warm up a little, before our next round of very cold temperatures.  Some days next week are only expected to make it into the single digits for the high.  I hope that…

More Snow . . . .

More Snow . . . .

After intermittent snow showers most of our Sunday, today is starting out the same way.  We received about 2 inches yesterday and are getting a little more today.  What’s worse is that this is the beginning of a very cold spell which will dominate most of this week.  I have to say that this has been a real winter for us, something we haven’t had in a while.  At least we aren’t buried in a foot or two of snow….

A Snowy January Day . . . .

A Snowy January Day . . . .

We have snow showers once again.  Not enough to really matter, but enough to make the roads slippery.  We continue to only have about an inch or two of ground cover, and there was a little thawing yesterday.  The paths that I shoveled on my deck did melt down to the bare wood which was good for the dog.  But it’s snowing quite hard right now, so will probably have to do it again. Our 2:45 PM temperature is 32°F,…

Winter Weather Advisory In Effect . . . .

Winter Weather Advisory In Effect . . . .

We have snow falling at this time and our weather advisory is forecasting about 2-4 inches by the time it is done at 1 AM.  Our temperatures have warmed up a bit from this morning, but will still remain below the freezing mark.  There is no significant warm-up expected anytime soon. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 24°F (-4°C), the humidity is 91%, and skies are overcast with snow.  Winds are from the S at 6-12 mph, and the pressure is…

Sunshine After A Very Cold Morning . . .

Sunshine After A Very Cold Morning . . .

My weather station showed -1F this morning at 8:30.  All other nearby weather stations showed temps in the teens.  Why was it so much colder at my house?  Did we have clear skies and everyone else had clouds?  I don’t get it!  Regardless, we have plenty of sun right now and temps have warmed up significantly.  The big weather story today is the disastrous fires in Los Angeles.  High winds and lack of water is making it an almost impossible…
