There was a lot of damage from Thursday night’s storms. There were six confirmed tornadoes just in the Detroit area. Then there were two in Livingston County and another near Grand Rapids. We were warned of the possibility of severe weather yesterday, and the storms that happened were “overachievers” according to one meteorologist. The above picture shows the radar from yesterday and you can see the massive amount of lightning strikes. There are many in the state without power and much structural and tree damage. Heavy thunderstorms moved over the eastern half of the lower peninsula yesterday morning and afternoon, dropping as much as 5 inches of rain in some areas near Detroit. It was a cool day until late in the afternoon when it cleared up a bit. That’s when it really got hot.
