Although we only have about 5 inches of snow cover, we have one foot drifts. My son went out for a test drive to see how the roads were, and he said that they’re all ice covered with snow blowing over them. Although our snow amounts aren’t impressive, strong winds are causing havoc on the roads. A good portion of I-75 is closed between Flint and Saginaw, and sporadic power outages are being reported. We haven’t lost ours and I consider us to be very lucky. The snow began early yesterday evening, along with some rain mixed in. Later it turned to all snow along with increasing winds. Everyone is busy getting ready for the storm. Stores are crowded with last minute shoppers and I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere today. Rain and snow is supposed to begin sometime this afternoon, but the warning doesn’t go into effect until 7 PM. At this time, estimated snow amounts expected are 5-8 inches for my area. Our Wednesday began with clear skies and very cold temperatures. It was 13°F when I got up at 8:30. Since then it has warmed a little but not much. This will be warm compared to what is coming next week. Some days won’t even make it out of the teens, and single digits at night. While the deep south is being hammered by tornadic storms, and the Midwest is plagued with blizzards, we, here in Michigan, continue to have cold but quiet weather. We had mostly clouds this morning, but the sky is clearing nicely as the day goes on. With very little wind, it’s quite pleasant outdoors.
