Severe Weather Hits Area This Saturday Night – Mid Michigan

Severe Weather Hits Area This Saturday Night – Mid Michigan

Although my area just got rain, Ovid, about 10 miles to our west, was hit by strong winds and damaging hail.  Hail stones the size of golf balls to almost baseball size were reported.  A friend at a yard party in Ovid even reported seeing a tornado which uprooted a tree on their property.  Small thunderstorm cells were moving from the NW to the SE as the evening progressed, and we were under weather advisories most of the evening.  We…

Our First Stormy Day This Spring – Mid Michigan

Our First Stormy Day This Spring – Mid Michigan

A large area of thunderstorms formed over mid Michigan and moved to the south late yesterday.  There were no storm warnings issued although there should have been.  Local forecasters said that they didn’t actually reach severe levels although there was plenty of wind damage done.  Here at my house, we received 0.24″ of rain and there isn’t any wind damage that I can see.  My weather station recorded 54 lightning strikes with the closest being 1 mile away.  Durand was…

Hot Temperatures, Little Rain Continues In Mid Michigan

Hot Temperatures, Little Rain Continues In Mid Michigan

Our weather has been unbearably hot for me.  Thankfully, we have cooler temps coming next week, once we get past the weekend.  The AC has been running steady.  We are heading back up to camp on Monday, and my husband went to get one of our 30# propane tanks filled.  Prices have jumped 50% from his last fill, and we have our great governor to thank for that.  She shut down Line 5 which goes under the Mackinaw Bridge without…

More Storms Brewing For Our Afternoon – Mid Michigan

More Storms Brewing For Our Afternoon – Mid Michigan

We had to go to Detroit yesterday and the weather situation was quite remarkable.  When we left at 9 AM, the sun was out with scattered clouds.  Then the sky became overcast and dark clouds began appearing to our south.  We soon had sprinkles with no real heavy rain.  On our return home, we ran into one deluge after another.  It was like going through a car wash and visibility was near zero at times.  These rain squalls didn’t last…

Another Hot Day In Mid Michigan

Another Hot Day In Mid Michigan

Today is another scorcher with my weather station reading over 90F.  I’m not sure how accurate it is because it is in the sun and that usually causes it to read about 3-4 degrees higher that what it really is.  Regardless, it is very hot.  Our forecast is calling for some popup storms tomorrow and I hope that we get some of them.  Usually they miss us.  A few of my perennial flowers didn’t come back so I have to…

Hot, Humid and Mostly Clear In Mid Michigan

Hot, Humid and Mostly Clear In Mid Michigan

Our weekend has turned out as promised.  Very hot and uncomfortable for those of us who are heat sensitive.  The saving factor of the day is the wind.  Some places could reach 90°F although the forecasted high is 87°F.  We had to make a trip to Pontiac this morning and were very happy to have AC in our truck.  This entire upcoming week is expected to be hot and dry although there is the chance for some pop-up afternoon thunder…

Perfect Weather In Indian River, MI

Perfect Weather In Indian River, MI

Our weather here in Indian River today is wonderful. Skies have been clear most of the day, and temperatures have been mild depending where you are. We took a drive to Cheboygan and temperatures there were only in the 60s. Here at the camp ground, it is currently in the upper 70s. Winds off Lake Huron make a big difference.  Hot weather is in the forecast for this weekend and beyond.  That will be quite a change from what we…

Our morning here in Indian River is much warmer than what we have had lately.  We will be here until Thursday and each day is expected to be a little warmer.  We have sun and very little rain in our forecast for this week.  The campground has been quiet since the weekend and I like it this way. Our 10:45 AM temperature is 46F (8C), the humidity is 56%, and the pressure is 30.18 in (1022.0 mb).  Skies are clear. …
