First Snowstorm of the Season – Mid Michigan

First Snowstorm of the Season – Mid Michigan

Yesterday brought moderate to heavy snow all day to Mid Michigan.  We received 6.8 inches here of new snow leaving us with 8-9 inches of snow cover.  There were many serious accidents closing I-69 from Durand east for a few hours.  People were complaining that the roads were a glare of ice making driving very difficult.  I was lucky that I didn’t have to go out.  Needless to say, most schools are closed, and those that were open yesterday sent the kids home early.  I don’t understand why they even had school yesterday with a Winter Storm warning issued.

Our 9:15 AM EST temperature is 1°F (-17°C), the humidity is 80%, and skies are clear.  Winds are calm and the pressure is 29.96 in (1013,.6 mb) and rising.  The dew point is -3°F (-19°C), and visibility is 9 miles.  Sunrise was at 8:01 AM and sunset with be at 5:03 PM.  Yesterday’s high was 19°F (-7°C) and the overnight low was 0°F (-18°C).  Averages for this date are 35°F / 22°F.
