A Sunny, Warmer Weekend Ahead For Mid Michigan

This is something that we haven’t had for a long time.  Usually when it warms up, we get rain.  This morning is sunny with temps right around the freezing  mark.  Highs should reach the mid 40s and that should melt the remaining ground cover that we have.  We have been getting small amounts over the past few days ranging from a trace to one quarter inch, just enough to make the roads slippery.  Wednesday, we had to go to Pontiac in freezing drizzle, but the traffic was heavy enough to keep the roads clear.  There is no more precipitation expected until Monday.

Our 8:30 AM temp is 32.4°F (0°C), the humidity is 81% and winds are from the southwest at 8 mph.  Skies are clear.  The pressure is 29.79 in (1008.8 mb) and rising.  The dew point is 28°F (-2°C) and the wind chill is 26°F (-3°C).  Visibility is 10 miles.  Sunrise was at 8:07 AM and sunset will be at 5:15 PM.  We’ve gained about 15 minutes of daylight in the evening since winter began, but the sun is still rising a little later in the morning.  Averages for this date are 31°F / 21°F.  The record high for Jan. 3 is  57°F (14°C) set in 1950, and the record low is -18°F (-28°C) set in 1981.
