I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Windy And Wet . . . .

Windy And Wet . . . .

This is the type of day that you are happy if you don’t have to go anywhere.  It is cold, very windy, and rainy.  We are under a high wind warning, giving us a very uncomfortable wind chill.  We could get some measurable snow over the next few days although it won’t last.  There was about an inch on my deck this morning but it melted right away. Our 5:15 PM temperature is 36°F, the humidity is 88%, and winds…

More Storms On The Way . . . .

More Storms On The Way . . . .

Once again, we are at risk for some pretty hefty storms tonight.  The north portions of our state could get freezing rain.  Right now it is quiet and there has been no rain so far.  We have to travel to Lansing early tomorrow morning, so I’m hoping that it isn’t storming at that time. Our 3 PM temperature is 47°F, the humidity is 84% and winds are from the NNE at 2-7 mph.  The pressure is 29.82 in and rising. …

Another Warm Day . . . .

Another Warm Day . . . .

What a great day this has been.  We’ve had clear skies and highs reaching the low 70s.  It’s been pretty breezy but it’s been a warm breeze.  Unfortunately, we may have to pay for it with more stormy weather tomorrow.  We are already being warned of a repeat of last Friday.  Hopefully, it won’t cause as much damage. Our 6:30 PM temperature is 71°F, the humidity is 35%, and winds are from the SW at 8-16 mph.  The pressure is…

A Little Cooler But Sunny . . . .

A Little Cooler But Sunny . . . .

We have a little reprieve from severe weather for a few days, but then another round is expected on Tuesday.  It isn’t clear how much will affect Michigan but I hope that those affected by the tornadoes on Friday, don’t get hit again.  Southwest Michigan is busy cleaning up the mess from the damage in ‘Three Rivers and Union City.  This next system looks like it will stay to the states south of us, but that’s what they thought about…

First Tornadoes Of The Year . . . .

First Tornadoes Of The Year . . . .

Although we knew that there was the possibility of severe weather, the tornadoes that struck the southwest corner of our state yesterday came as a shock.  There were four deaths and numerous injuries.  Looking at videos of the damage, I’m guessing that it was probably an EF3 or 4.  As for us, we had a lot of rain and plenty of lightning, although there were no close lightning strikes.  Three Rivers, MI got the worst of it.  We should get…

Foggy And Dreary . . . .

After a very wet Thursday, today looks to be much the same.  We are expecting heavy rain and even a slight possibility for severe weather.  We had almost half an inch of rainfall yesterday with much pooling in the fields, indicating an existing frost line.  The next three days will be very warm with highs reaching much above average. Our 10:45 AM temperature is 44°F, the humidity is 95%, and skies are overcast with light fog.  Winds are from the…

Rain And Fog . . . .

We have rain, sometimes heavy, along with fog today. This could last most of the day and temperatures are much cooler than yesterday.  At least we’re getting rain and not snow.  Temperatures will rebound tomorrow with highs expected near 60°F.  These warm temps should remain most of this week. Our 3 PM temperature is 40°F, the humidity is 92%, and winds are from the NE at 3-6 mph.  The pressure is 29.87 in and falling.  The dew point is 38°F…

c Today is wonderful!!.  Temps are in the 50s and there is hardly any wind.  For early March, it can’t be beat.  Skies have been clear this morning, but light clouds have moved in for the afternoon; but not enough to block the sun.  This entire week will have above average temperatures, so we’ll enjoy while it lasts. Our 4 PM temperature is 54°F, the humidity is 48%, and winds are from the SE at 4-6 mph.  The pressure is…
