I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Showers And Thunderstorms For Our Saturday . . . .

Showers And Thunderstorms For Our Saturday . . . .

We had a little rain early Friday, then a thundershower overnight.  Both left about three quarters of an inch total in the rain gauge.  Our sky is overcast right now, and radar is showing more rain cells dotting the map.  I guess we won’t be doing much outdoors today. Our 11:30 AM temperature is 74°F (23°C), the humidity is 89%, and winds are from the SW at 2-5 mph.   The pressure is 29.66 in (1004.4 mb) and steady.  Visibility is…

A Rainy Friday . . . .

A Rainy Friday . . . .

Rain began late last night, and continued throughout the overnight.  There was 0.33″ in my rain gauge at 7:30 this morning, and we have had intermittent light rain since then.  We could expect some heavy thunderstorms later today, tonight, and tomorrow, but all has been calm so far.  There is a slight chance that some could be severe, but that really isn’t expected. Our 1 PM temperature is 69°F (21°C), the humidity is 94%, and winds are from the SE…

Thunderstorms On The Way . . . .

Thunderstorms On The Way . . . .

Our morning is beginning with a thin cloud cover and filtered sun.  Clouds will be on the increase and showers and thunderstorms will develop late in the day.  We have a marginal risk of severe weather over the next few days,  and we can expect wet weather right through the weekend. Our 9:45 AM temperature is 68°F, the humidity is 85%, and winds are from the ESE at 1-7 mph.  The pressure is 30.05 in and steady, and the dew…

Cumulus Clouds And Very Warm Temps . . . .

Cumulus Clouds And Very Warm Temps . . . .

We have yet another partly cloudy day with very warm temps, and almost no breeze.  There is still no rain in our forecast until tomorrow night, and temperatures will remain in the 80s until the rain moves in on Friday.  Then we are expected to  have a bit of a cool down next week.  Right now it looks like we can expect some rain this weekend, but not a total washout.  Pretty typical for summer in Michigan. Our 4 PM…

A Mix Of Clouds And Sun . . . .

A Mix Of Clouds And Sun . . . .

Our morning began with clear skies, but now clouds have taken over.  Temperatures should be comfortable.  There is no rain in our forecast until Thursday night and it looks like there won’t be much breeze today.  Another AC day.  Why is there never much breeze when temps get hot? Our 2:15 PM temperature is 81°F, the humidity is 54%, and winds are from the west at 1-3 mph.  The pressure is 30.08 in and steady, and the dew point is…

Continued Great Weather . . . . .

Continued Great Weather . . . . .

Our lovely summer weather continues, and I really can’t say much more than that.   I sat out last night watching for northern lights, or meteors, and wouldn’t you know it!  Fifteen minutes after going out, clouds rolled in.  It wasn’t just scattered clouds, it was an entire cloud cover.   Michigan is disappointing when it comes to sky watching. Our 11:15 AM temperature is 71°F, the humidity is 65%, and winds are from the NW at 2-6 mph, and the pressure…

A Bit Chilly . . . .

A Bit Chilly . . . .

We were surprised by a little rain late last night.  It happened around midnight, and left 0.07″ in my gauge.  I was seeing small cells scattered on our radar map, and one just happened to move right over us.  It only lasted about 5 minutes, just enough to get everything wet.   Today has a mix of sun and clouds, and temperatures should be a little warmer than yesterday.  It will also be a little breezy, so another good day to…

Unseasonably Cool . . . .

Unseasonably Cool . . . .

Yesterday was lovely, and today will also be nice, but temperatures will remain much below normal.  In addition, winds will be quite strong making it feel even cooler.  I guess we could say that it will be a sweatshirt day here in Michigan.  I don’t have a problem with it and will take this weather over 90 degrees anytime.  There is no rain mentioned in our forecast until next Friday. Our 10 AM temperature is 62°F (17°C), the humidity is…

Cool And Breezy . . . .

Cool And Breezy . . . .

We have clear skies, clear air, and a nice breeze to keep the house cool without the AC.  I’m loving it.  Yesterday was quite nice, but hardly any breeze, and the house  did get quite warm by late afternoon.  There is no rain in our forecast at this time, at least up until next Thursday.  Temperatures are expected to stay in the comfortable range, so it looks like perfect weather to me. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 74°F (23°C), the…

My Kind Of Weather . . . .

My Kind Of Weather . . . .

Some are saying that it feels like fall, but for me, it’s ideal.  I was working out in the yard yesterday and the mosquitoes weren’t bothering me for a change.  We received almost an inch and a half of rain early yesterday, and one would think that the yard would be very wet, but it wasn’t.  This entire week is expected to be on the cool side and I’m loving it. Our 9:30 AM temp is 68°F (20°C), the humidity…
