I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
A Dreary Morning . . . .

A Dreary Morning . . . .

After a hot, sunny Thursday, our weather took a turn for the wet late last night.  We had a line of thundershowers move over dropping a little over half an inch in my gauge.  I think the rain is over for the day, but skies are overcast and it seems quite dark out.  We are losing about 3 minutes of daylight every day now, and it is quite noticeable, especially in the evening.  Meteorlogically speaking, autumn is here. Our 9AM…

Much Warmer Today . . . .

Much Warmer Today . . . .

Just when we thought the hot weather was over, Mother Nature sends more.  At least it is now just a day here and there.  I notice that the mosquitoes love these hot temps, and make their presents felt whenever we have a day like this.  There is rain in our forecast for tonight and early tomorrow, so that should cool it off once again. Our 12 noon temperature is 80°F (27°C), the humidity is 58%, and skies are clear.  Winds…

Cool And Bright . . . .

Cool And Bright . . . .

This morning was a bit chilly, but with the sun, it is warming up fast.  Winds are very light so no wind factor there.  I’m seeing a brownish tint to the otherwise blue sky, so I’m thinking that we have smoke from some of the wildfires overhead.  Otherwise, it’s a good day just to get out and enjoy. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 75°F (24°C), the humidity is 45%, and winds are from the SE at 3-6 mph.  The pressure…

Great Weather Continues . . . .

Great Weather Continues . . . .

This is wonderful weather that we’re having.  Although our high temps are below where they should be, that’s fine with me.  Winds are very light, the humidity and dew points are low, and we have plenty of sun.  There is still no mention of rain until Thursday night. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 72°F (22°C), the humidity is 43%, and winds are calm.  The pressure is 30.24 in (1024.1 mb) and falling.  The dew point is 47°F (8°C) and visibility…

A Beautiful Labor Day . . . .

A Beautiful Labor Day . . . .

We couldn’t have a nicer day for the holiday, unless you’re a fan of hot weather.  I’m not so this is great for me.  Highs today will be mostly in the upper 60s, and we could reach 70°F by this afternoon.  Regardless, there will be plenty of sun and our forecast is calling for dry weather most of this week.  Temperatures will be mainly in the 70s and that’s perfect for me. Our 12:45 PM temperature is 66°F, the humidity…

A Very Pleasant Day Ahead . . . .

A Very Pleasant Day Ahead . . . .

Today should be a fine day for those getting their last camping trips in for the year.  It should be dry with very comfortable temperatures.  We are a bit on the cool side this morning, but it feels good.  The humidity is much lower, and so is the dew point.  I’ll take it! Our 11:30 AM temp is 72°F, the humidity is 68%, and winds are from the N at 3-7 mph.  The pressure is 29.87 in and rising, and…

Cooler Weather . . . .

Cooler Weather . . . .

After the very uncomfortable last two days, yesterday’s storms brought much better weather for us.  We had a line of storms move over in the afternoon, and severe TS warnings were issued, but not for us.  We just had a nice rain with a few rumbles of thunder and that was it.  It remained hot and muggy right into the overnight, but this morning is better.  We should see a considerable cool down over the holiday and I welcome it….

Could Have More Severe Weather . . . .

Could Have More Severe Weather . . . .

Our morning has cloudy skies with some sun shining through.  There is another chance for severe weather this afternoon, but mainly for the southeastern parts of the state.  There is another cold front knocking on our door, and a significant cool-down will happen early next week.  Today will be hot and humid, and hopefully, this will be the end of this high-temp weather.  I’m ready for fall. Our 9:45 PM temperature is 77°F (25°C), the humidity is 84%, and skies…

Rain Ending And Cooler Temps . . . .

Rain Ending And Cooler Temps . . . .

We had a series of intermittent showers and thundershowers throughout yesterday afternoon.  There were small cells which developed just to our northwest and left us with some pretty good rain amounts.  There was little over half an inch this morning in my gauge.  Today has been much cooler with mostly cloudy skies with filtered sun.  There is no more rain in the forecast for today, but tomorrow is expected to be wet once again. Our 11:15 AM temperature is 70°F…

Cooler Temps, Thunderstorms . . . .

Cooler Temps, Thunderstorms . . . .

Yesterday brought a sunny beginning, that ended with strong to severe thunderstorms.  We didn’t have any damage here in my area, but there was plenty to our south.  My son lives in Northville, and my daughter in Howell.  They were both without power late yesterday.  We didn’t even get that much rain, just 0.22″.  I’m seeing that southern areas, including Detroit, got as much a 3 inches.  We could still see more rain today as another cold front comes our…
