Some Sun After The Snow – Mid Michigan

Some Sun After The Snow – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was cloudy but warm enough to rid us of most of our snow and ice.  Then in the late afternoon, our precip began as freezing mist which changed over to fine snow shortly after.  As the night wore on, the snowflakes got bigger and it started to pile up quickly.  It was over by 11:30 PM after dropping about 4.5 inches of snow.  This morning is sunny but very cold.  Forecasts are showing a significant warm-up this weekend and…

Heavy Rain, Warm Temps In Mid Michigan

Heavy Rain, Warm Temps In Mid Michigan

My picture pretty much tells what we can expect today.  We had heavy rain most of the night and there was 0.82″ in my gauge.  My county (Shiawassee) is in the advisory area and we are expecting 3-6 inches of snow by tonight.  Our snow cover this morning is down to about 30% and temperatures are expected to drop creating ice on all surfaces that are wet.  At least we aren’t expecting up to 9 inches which was first predicted…

Very Warm And Windy In Mid Michigan

Very Warm And Windy In Mid Michigan

With all the snow that we have, we’ve been putting food out for the deer.  They come about 4-5 times a day to see what’s out there for them.  I enjoy watching them and the birds.  Winter is always such a dead time of year, and seeing wildlife moving around livens it up a bit.  I’ve been putting peanuts out almost everyday, and something is eating them, but I never see what it is.  All I know is that all…

A Very Cold Start To Our Day In Mid Michigan

A Very Cold Start To Our Day In Mid Michigan

Today began with temps below zero but has warmed up a bit this afternoon. We should start seeing our temperatures moderating beginning today, and a significant warm-up by Wednesday.  Unfortunately, there is a winter storm developing and heading in our direction.  Computer models are ranging from showing it remaining to our south to bringing rain or freezing rain to my area.  Another is showing snow.  So at this time we don’t know what’s going to happen.  I would be happy…

Back In The Deep Freese Once Again – Mid Michigan

Back In The Deep Freese Once Again – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was a calm day but very cold.  Highs were only in the teens, as they are expected to be today.  We had a mix of rain and snow Friday night which left a covering of ice everywhere.  The road is still ice covered but roughed up enough to get pretty good traction.  There is another winter storm coming but the weather models aren’t sure if we will get rain or snow.  One was showing possibly a foot for my…

Some Snow Loss But More On the Horizon – Mid Michigan

Some Snow Loss But More On the Horizon – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was quite warm, sunny, and we lost quite a bit of snow cover.  Current snow measured 5.5″ this morning.  Unfortunately there was ice everywhere from the dropping temps and melting yesterday.  Today is much cooler and this is expected to continue through the weekend.  There is another warmup on the way next week, but it could also bring a round of severe weather with it.  That remains to be seem. Our 5 PM temperature is 29°F (-2°C), the humidity…

Feels Like Spring In Mid Michigan

Feels Like Spring In Mid Michigan

Our temperatures have reached the 40 degree mark and how pleasant it is.  We are losing a lot of our snow and the current measurement of snow cover is 6 inches.  We had some running around to do this morning and this balmy weather was a joy.  I think most of us are sick of winter already, but just seeing it stay daylight until 6 pm is good for the spirits.  Our morning began with sun but now clouds have…

A Bit Warmer In Mid Michigan

A Bit Warmer In Mid Michigan

I got out this morning and measured our actual snow pack and it is now 7.3 inches.  That’s down 3.2 inches from right after the storm last Wednesday.  I don’t think that there was much melting but more settling than anything.  I noticed some thawing yesterday but not much.  We did briefly get over the freezing mark earlier but it didn’t last long. We should see much warmer temps over the next three days before the next Alberta clipper arrives…

Warmer With Filtered Sun – Mid Michigan

Warmer With Filtered Sun – Mid Michigan

It actually feels balmy out there today.  Even the wind doesn’t seem that cold.  I’m hoping that these Alberta clippers are finished for the year but I’m probably asking too much.  We have mostly clouds but I’m seeing a little sun trying to make an appearance.  I’m noticing that the temperature is rising quite quickly and my weather station is now reading 33°F (1°C) at 2:00 pm. This week is expected to be considerably warmer than the past two, so…

Another Sunny Day, But Bitter Cold – Mid Michigan

Another Sunny Day, But Bitter Cold – Mid Michigan

Clearing snow, even with a snowblower, is a lot of work when you have this much snow.  We have clear skies today, but with temps in the teens, it doesn’t do much to warm it up.  My husband finally got the snow removal finished and everything is back to normal.  There are a few warm days coming up next week where highs should rise above freezing.  I don’t think it will be warm enough to rid us of much snow,…
