My picture pretty much tells what we can expect today. We had heavy rain most of the night and there was 0.82″ in my gauge. My county (Shiawassee) is in the advisory area and we are expecting 3-6 inches of snow by tonight. Our snow cover this morning is down to about 30% and temperatures are expected to drop creating ice on all surfaces that are wet. With all the snow that we have, we’ve been putting food out for the deer. They come about 4-5 times a day to see what’s out there for them. I enjoy watching them and the birds. I got out this morning and measured our actual snow pack and it is now 7.3 inches. That’s down 3.2 inches from right after the storm last Wednesday. I don’t think that there was much melting but more settling than anything. I noticed some thawing yesterday but not much. We did briefly get over the freezing mark earlier but it didn’t last long. Clearing snow, even with a snowblower, is a lot of work when you have this much snow. We have clear skies today, but with temps in the teens, it doesn’t do much to warm it up.
