Mid Michigan Weather

There are numerous showers popping up on radar but they all seem to  be missing us.  I expected to hear the rumble of thunder overnight but no such luck.  Everything was dry this morning.  We’ll be heading up to the campground tomorrow and I’m hoping that nothing got blown away with the storms of last weekend.  This coming weekend should be more quiet although with another round of uncomfortably hot weather. Severe thunderstorms rocked northern Michigan early yesterday causing damage to a school in Cheboygan, and many trees down across the northern areas of the state.  Even our campground had some damage done, mainly awning damage and large tree branches down.  The Topinabee / Indian River area was under a tornado warning for awhile on Saturday afternoon, so I’m glad that we were not up there.  The school in Cheboygan definitely looks like tornado damage but I haven’t heard the official…

This radar image was from this morning when a line of thunderstorms moved across the state, causing severe storm warnings in various places.   We were under a warning briefly, but there was nothing here that was severe.  Yes, there was plenty of thunder and lightning but rain amounts were only 0.15″.  I’m hearing that a tornado was spotted near Roscommon but haven’t heard of any damage reports.  Durand is shown in the lower portion of the image and we just…

We took a drive to Sleeper State Park in Caseville yesterday.  Caseville is in the thumb area of the state and was a favorite camping destination for us when my kids were little.  We hadn’t been there in years and I was curious as to how much of the beach was lost to the record water levels of Lake Huron.  Needless to say, much of the beach was gone.  There was only about 20-30 ft of sand left compared to…

Rain began around 3 AM this morning and left 0.50″ in my gauge.  It was very welcome and exceeded the predictions.  Light rain continues at this time but radar is showing that it won’t last much longer.  Regardless, we’re thankful for what we did get. Friday produced multiple showers and thunderstorms for our state.  The rain was very badly needed following this past week of very hot, dry weather.  We received 1.28″ but some areas recorded as much as 3-4 inches.  Temperatures are expected to be more normal for the next few days, but then another bout of 90 degree weather is in the forecast.  I am not a fan of hot weather but I’ll enjoy these next few days.
