There was quite an impressive line of thunderstorms coming off Lake Michigan this morning, but they continued to fall apart as they moved across the state; most that would have affected us, dwindled before reaching us. I’m seeing no more rain behind this first line on the radar, so it looks like the rest of the day may be dry. Winds are the issue with gusts up to 30 mph. It didn’t take long for the Halloween snow to disappear. There was just a trace this morning but even that is gone now. If not for the wind, today would have been very pleasant. We had heavy to moderate snowfall yesterday that lasted a few hours. When it finally stopped, there was 1.8″ on my deck. I don’t ever remember having this much snow on Halloween. We had our first wintry precipitation yesterday. It was graupel. Some areas reported snow flurries but I didn’t see any; but I definitely had graupel hitting my windshield as I was driving. I’m seeing where northern lower Michigan has about one inch of snow cover. As for us, we had a graupel shower while I was out this morning. It didn’t last long but it happened. The only bright thing about today is my lovely yellow maple tree. It always hangs onto it’s leaves longer than most others, and gives us something brilliant about an otherwise gloomy day.
