The Winter Scenario Continues in Mid Michigan

The Winter Scenario Continues in Mid Michigan

We were under a winter storm warning most of yesterday as rain and freezing rain continued.  The first warning expired at noon, then another was issued later in the day.  I couldn’t understand the reason for the second one since there was nothing happening or nothing showing on radar.  Temps remained right at the freezing mark so the road salt took care of driving conditions most of the day.  But now we have a thick layer of ice covering everything…

Winter Storm Winding Down in Mid Michigan

Winter Storm Winding Down in Mid Michigan

For us, the storm wasn’t as bad as predicted.  We never did get the strong winds that they had near the western shorelines of the state, and most of the precip was rain and sleet.  I heard that the Mackinaw Bridge is closed due to 50 mph winds.  It is misting out now and freezing but the sleet cover is keeping it from being that slippery.  We only have about 0.2 in of ice/sleet cover this morning.  The storm warning…

Winter Storm Warning For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Winter Storm Warning For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

What a nasty morning!  The freezing rain hasn’t started yet but is on the way.  A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until tomorrow afternoon and the warning area keeps spreading southward.  I have to go to work later and am not concerned about the drive in but getting home tonight is a concern.  We have moderate to heavy rain falling at this time and there was 0.38 in in my guage at 8:15 AM.  In the past half hour,…

A Major Winter Four Day Storm Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

A Major Winter Four Day Storm Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was a fantastic day except for the strong winds.  Highs reached the lower 70s for the first time this year, and there was plenty of sun.  But winter isn’t giving up just yet.  We have the quiet before the storm this Friday morning but it will be replaced by some pretty dreadful weather.  My area is sort of on the border between just rain and a major ice storm.  Up to a quarter of an inch of freezing rain…

Some Overnight Rain Before Very Warm Temps – Mid Michigan

Some Overnight Rain Before Very Warm Temps – Mid Michigan

We had a very mild night which will be followed by a very warm Thursday.  Our highs could reach the mid to upper 60s for a change but unfortunately it won’t last.   We received 0.14 inches of rain overnight, and now skies are clearing and the sun is out.  We better enjoy it because winter will return next week.  At least the crocus aren’t afraid to show their little heads.  I just wish that they bloomed longer. Our 9:45 AM…

A Slight Taste of Spring For Mid Michigan

A Slight Taste of Spring For Mid Michigan

To say that this is getting annoying is an understatement to be sure.  We can look forward to about three days of normal temps, then back to winter once again.  I don’t ever remember having an April like this before.  How much longer is this going to last?  At this rate, we’ll still be seeing snow in May. Our 9:30 AM temp is 36°F (2°C), the humidity is 81% and skies are cloudy with light sprinkles.  Winds are from the…

Winter! Won’t It Ever End? – Mid Michigan

Winter! Won’t It Ever End? – Mid Michigan

We woke, once again, to a white world this morning.  We didn’t get much but at this time of year, any is too  much.  There is a huge warm-up coming tomorrow and it is expected to last through the weekend.  But after that, back in the 40s again.  I’m beginning to wonder if it will ever warm up this year.  Mother Nature is such a tease.  At least we have sun and clear skies this morning but highs will still…

Still Waiting For The Warmup In Mid Michigan

Still Waiting For The Warmup In Mid Michigan

This is yet another grey day in Mid Michigan but the sun is trying to peek through the clouds.  At least the strong winds are gone and most  precip appears  to missing us or not reaching the ground.  Temperatures, however, will still remain much colder than where they should be for this date.   Spring weather will finally arrive on Wednesday and should remain for the rest of the week. Our 9:45 AM temp is 32°F (0°C), the humidity is 69%,…

A Sunny Sunday But Still Very Chilly – Mid Michigan

A Sunny Sunday But Still Very Chilly – Mid Michigan

Our Sunday is beginning with clear skies, light winds but very cool temperatures.  This is expected to continue until Wednesday when our high temp should finally be in the normal range.  At least with the sun, it doesn’t seem quite so cold.  The grass is greening up a little after the thundershower that we had earlier this week but still no sign of my spring flowers.  They just need a few warmer days before they stick their little heads out.  …

February Temperatures For Our Saturday in Mid Michigan

February Temperatures For Our Saturday in Mid Michigan

Although we have clear skies this morning, our temperatures still feel like late winter.  We had a quick snow squall in the late afternoon Friday which created almost whiteout conditions; but thankfully it only lasted about 5 minutes without much accumulation.  Any snow that fell melted right away.  There was a very light cover of snow this morning and that was gone as soon as the sun came up.  Our high today will be about 20° below the average.  It’s…
