Michigan Blizzard Leaves County Roads Closed, Power Outages, Wind Damage

Yesterday was a miserable day in Michigan as well as other states to our south.  We had wind gusts up to 60 mph in places and significant snowfall in some areas.  We only received about an inch of new snow, but Otsego county in northern lower Michigan received about 7 inches of new snow.    All the roads there are closed this morning including portions of I-75.  Surprisingly, there aren’t that many power outages which really is a surprise.  In spite of what we got, the folks in the south are dealing with tornado damage and flooding from this same storm.  Here’s hoping that March is more tranquil.

Our 10:15 AM temperature is 17°F (-8°C), the humidity is 68% and winds are from the west at 23 mph.  Skies are cloudy.  The dew point is 8°F (-13°C) and the pressure is 30.24 in ( 1024.1 mb) and rising.  The wind chill is -2°F (-19°C) and visibility is 7 miles.  We received about an inch of lake effect snow yesterday and these snow squalls are continuing this morning.  Yesterday’s high was 47°F (8°C) and the overnight low was 13°F (-11°C).  The highest wind gust recorded at the Owosso airport yesterday was 46 mph.
