Yesterday’s Tornadoes, Too Close For Comfort – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was supposed to be our beautiful warm, spring-like day with highs in the 60s and warm sun.  But I’ve lived in Michigan long enough to know that having weather like that this early in the year can be dangerous.  I was at the hospital most of the day having a heart cath done, and my nurse and I were talking about this exact thing happening.  When I was released, my husband, son and I stopped for dinner at a restaurant in Okemos.  That’s when the storms hit with wind, thunder and lightning.  About the time we headed home, I started getting alerts on my phone that we were under a tornado warning.  As we drove east on I-69, the rain was intense and at times we could hardly see.  By the time that we arrived at home, most of the storm had passed my area.  We then started hearing about damage done by tornadoes in the Durand area, one just one road over from my house.  Damage reports are just now coming out and from what I’m seeing, I’m guessing that it was probably an EF2.

Our 10 AM temperature is 39°F (4°C), the humidity is 82% and winds are from the SW at 15 mph, gusting to 22 mph.  The wind chill is 32 °F (0°C).  Skies are overcast and the pressure is 29.66 in (1004.4 mb) and falling.  The dew point is 35°F (2°C).  There was 0.63 in of rain in my gauge.  Yesterday’s high was 61°F and the overnight low was 40°F.  Sunrise was at  7:48 AM and sunset will be at 7:42 PM.
