I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
It Feels Like Late Fall . . . .

It Feels Like Late Fall . . . .

It’s chilly and dreary today.  There is no rain in the forecast but it looks like it could rain.  There isn’t much wind so that part is good, but it would be nice to see some sun. Our 2:45 PM temperature is 53°F, the humidity is 56%, and skies are overcast.  Winds are calm and the pressure is 20.35 in and steady.  The dew point is 35°F and visibility is 10 miles.  Yesterday’s high was 52°F and the overnight low…

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds . . . .

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds . . . .

Our day began with clear skies and sun.  Now clouds have taken over and it is pretty breezy.  We did have a little rain yesterday but it only dropped 0.01″.  There isn’t any rain in our forecast today but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few sprinkles. Our 2 PM temperature is 50°F, the humidity is 60% and skies are mostly cloudy.  Winds are from the WNW at 2-8 mph, and the pressure is 30.10 inHG and rising. The…

Rain Finally Ended . . . .

Rain Finally Ended . . . .

After yesterday’s almost total washout, today began with clear skies.  Now more clouds have moved in and some look like rain.  It will be very chilly today and the wind will not make it any warmer.  High pressure is moving our way, so hopefully, we’ll see some sunny weather over the next few days. Our 1:30 PM temperature is 49°F, the humidity is 68%, and winds are from the west at 2 to 11 mph.  The pressure is on the…

Another Rainy Day . . . .

Another Rainy Day . . . .

The rain began yesterday afternoon and has continues intermittently through the night and most of today.  It isn’t much more than sprinkles although now the sun is beginning to shine.  Temperatures won’t be very warm, only in the 50s and that will last most of this week.  Autumn weather has finally arrived. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 51°F, the humidity is 89% and skies are mostly cloudy.  Winds are from the west at 5-13 mph and the pressure is 29;45…

Rain Finally Ended . . . .

Rain Finally Ended . . . .

After a very wet weekend, we are happy to see the sun again.  Our weekend rain total was 2.25 inches.  This should certainly help to ease the drought areas of the state.  With it came much cooler temperatures although they are now closer to where they should be.  We were spoiled with the extended summer that we had. Our 12 noon temperature is 55°F, the humidity is 62%, and skies are mostly clear.  Winds are from the west at 4-11…

Heavy Rain For Our Weekend . . . .

Heavy Rain For Our Weekend . . . .

We received 0.85 in of rain late yesterday afternoon, then another 0.81 in overnight, so I think that we have enough rain for awhile.  Radar, however, is showing more on the way.  I hope that the areas that were drought stricken got as much as we did.  I’m just glad that this wasn’t snow. Our 9:30 AM temperature is 55°F, the humidity is 99%, and skies are overcast with sprinkles.  Winds are from the west at 4-9 mph, and the…

Not A Bad Day . . . . .

Not A Bad Day . . . . .

Today will be a typical autumn day although the temperatures will be a bit warmer than normal.  We had a little rain overnight which left 0.04″ in my gauge.  This weekend could be a bit on the stormy side and we really do need the rain.  The remainder of this month is still expected to remain warmer than normal. Our 1 PM temperature is 66°F, the humidity is 47%, and winds are from the SSW at 2-8 mph.  Skies are…

A Little Overnight Rain . . . . .

A Little Overnight Rain . . . . .

We received a little rain overnight which only measured 0.03″ in my gauge.  It wasn’t enough to really make a difference, but now skies have cleared and the sun is shining brightly.  We are seeing an increase in color everyday, and these cold nights are really aiding it.  Our weather is in a bit of a back-and-fourth mode with a few 70 degree days still showing up.  Temps are still much above normal, making our October very pleasant. Our 1:30…

Another Record Broken . . . .

Another Record Broken . . . .

Another high temperature record was broken yesterday by one degree.  The day began with dense fog but then partially cleared through the afternoon.  Today will also be mild but more clouds.  We will see cooler weather the next few days before another round of warmer than normal temps.  This has been a lovely autumn season so far.  I hope it lasts into early winter. Our 12:30 PM temperature is 66°F, the humidity is 74%, and skies are cloudy.  Winds are…

A Little Fog To Start The Day . . . .

A Little Fog To Start The Day . . . .

We had dense fog early this morning but now it is bright and sunny.  It will be a very nice day and warm enough for outdoor activities.  The rain that we got hasn’t lessened the fire danger much, although my area isn’t as bad as further north.  There was a wildfire near Houghton Lake but I haven’t heard anything about it lately, so I assume that it is under control. Our 12 noon temperature is 60°F, the humidity is 78%,…
