Today was supposed to be cloudy and wet, but there has been no rain so far and the chances have been reduced. We couldn’t have had nicer weather for our final week here. Temperatures were mostly mild and yesterday felt like summer. Everyone here was wearing shorts and kids were busy on their scooter, skate boards and bikes. Yesterday was a clear, beautiful day here in the Indian River area. We took a drive to Cheboygan late afternoon, and as we approached the in-law’s cabins, we saw what appeared to be heavy dark smoke. After a few very cold days, temperatures today should be reaching near normal. I’m not sure if there was frost here. I didn’t see any but my in-laws at the cabins said that there was some there, and their son in Gaylord reported heavy frost there also. My son said that we were under a frost advisory at home, so he went out and picked the remaining tomatoes. I’m hoping that I still get a few more zucchinis yet but…
My picture shows what our sky looks like with the smoke from the western wildfires. It isn’t expected to affect our temperatures today, however. Expected highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Looking forward to next week, the highs on some days will struggle to reach 60F. It is very chilly this morning and skies are clear, but smoke from the western fires give the appearance of a light layer of clouds. We are starting to see a little color in the trees and bushes now and there is a heavy dew every morning. It won’t be long until that heavy dew will be frost. There is rain moving in from the west but so far, it has stayed to our west and north. Forecasts are calling for it to move into our area later today. I hope it just misses us entirely.
