Heavy Rains Training Over Mid Michigan

Heavy Rains Training Over Mid Michigan

A long line of thunderstorms are training over an area from Chicago to north of Toronto, Ontario.  We received an inch of rain in about 20 minutes a few hours ago, and light rain has continued since then.  Radar continues to show this line of storms moving from the SW to the NE and no sign of weakening at this time.  They are moving along I-69 and include Battle Creek, Lansing, and Flint.  A special weather statement was issued for…

A Little Rain To Begin Our Friday in Mid Michigan

A Little Rain To Begin Our Friday in Mid Michigan

We received a stray shower early this morning although it didn’t amount to much.  There was only 0.03″ in my gauge  at 8 AM, then another 0.02″ after that.   The radar looked like we should get a lot more, but it didn’t happen.  Right now (9:15 AM), the sky is clearing and the sun is shining.  It’s going to be another hot one.  We will be going up to the campground next week and I’m hoping that temps there will…

All Storms Missed Us in Mid Michigan

All Storms Missed Us in Mid Michigan

Yesterday, we thought for sure that we would get some much needed rain.  There was a large area of yellow/red cells on the radar from the early afternoon.  It moved very slowly toward us and didn’t near our area until almost midnight.  The problem was that when it finally approached us, it changed directions to the northeast.  We got the very bottom edge leaving only 0.01″ in my gauge.  What a disappointment.  The farmers around me have all planted, and…

The Threat of Storms Today in Mid Michigan

The Threat of Storms Today in Mid Michigan

This morning has been a mix of clouds and sun.  It looked like we were in for a good storm, but it managed to slide just to our south and east.  The threat of storms remain in our forecast and we could actually use a little rain.  These hot temps really dry things out.  The grass isn’t growing quite as fast and that’s good thing. Our 11 AM temperature is 74.5°F (23°C), the humidity is 60%, and winds are from…

Another Hot Day in Mid Michigan

Another Hot Day in Mid Michigan

Although our morning is sunny, there is a line of thunderstorms approaching from the northwest.  I’m not sure if they will hold together considering that our humidity is quite low, but they have continued through the overnight.  I guess we’ll find out in a few hours. The temperature didn’t fall much overnight with steady temps in the low 70s.  It did make it up to 90° yesterday, and probably will again today.  The next few days should be a little…

Very Summer-Like in Mid Michigan

Very Summer-Like in Mid Michigan

We can expect our temps today to be unseasonably warm with our high near 90°F.  Last night was very warm with the low never falling much below 70°F.  Skies were clear all day and the humidity was quite low, so it really wasn’t too uncomfortable.  I normally don’t like it this hot, but as long as the air is dry, I can tolerate it.  There was a nice breeze  which was welcome, and it continued all night long. Our 9:45…

A Perfect Day in Mid Michigan

A Perfect Day in Mid Michigan

Yesterday was a gorgeous day with clear skies, light breezes, low humidity, and temps in the 70s.  In fact, it was perfect in my book.  I got a lot done, getting screens on the rest of my windows, and the rest of my flowers planted.  Today will be much the same but a little warmer.  As long as there is a breeze and the humidity is low,  I won’t complain. Our 9 AM temp is 64°F (17°C), the humidity is…

Mid Michigan Warm-up Begins Today

Mid Michigan Warm-up Begins Today

It will finally start to feel like summer today, after below normal temps over the last few days.  Highs near 90° are expected early next week and many will welcome it.  As for me, that’s a bit too warm for my liking.  Our weather issue this year has been the wind.   I don’t ever remember a year in the past where we have had 20-30 mph winds almost every day.  We’ll be heading north in the few weeks to the…

An Okay Early June Day in Mid Michigan

An Okay Early June Day in Mid Michigan

This  blog is getting done a bit late today because I was at work this morning.  Our temps are a bit cool for this time of year but I’m seeing some very hot weather in our extended forecast.   It seems to always go from one extreme to the other.  Why can’t we just stay in the 70s.  That would make me very happy. Right now (4:30 PM), our temperature is 67.3°F (18°C),  the humidity is 56%, and skies are partly…

Sunday Morning Showers in Mid Michigan

Sunday Morning Showers in Mid Michigan

This morning is very mild after a line of showers and thunderstorms moved over the state overnight from the northwest.  They didn’t reach us until 6:30 this morning, and all that that remained were some light showers.  There was only 0.09″ in my gauge at 8:30 AM.  Radar is still showing some scattered areas of rain but this is expected to end later this afternoon. Our 9:15 AM temp is 64°F, the humidity is 85%, and skies are cloudy.  The…
