Monday was a complete wash-out with rain all day. Yes, we got a few breaks that lasted about 15 mins, but then more rain. Highs never even reached 60°F and that was almost 20° below normal. But what can I say? This has been a very wet spring in Michigan, especially here in the north. Our next trip up here will be the end of July and I sure hope that it improves by then. Woke this morning to the sound of rain on the roof, not a pleasant sound when you are camping. My storm radar is showing no letup until around noon. I’ve seen the pictures of washed-out roads following Friday’s heavy rains in mid Michigan. The Mt. Pleasant area, as well as other surrounding areas, received up to 8 inches of rain and many farmers already lost what they had planted. Here in northern Michigan, we fared much better. Yesterday was just as nice as Thursday was awful. We lucked out here in northern Michigan, as well as at home. Our total rainfall at home was 0.84 inches while the mid portions of lower Michigan recorded as much ass 8 inches from this storm. There are many closed roads due to flooding and some were even totally washed out. My relatives at the Stoney Point cabins recorded an inch total. Our morning is bright, cool, and pleasant. I slept with the windows wide open last night and it felt so good. I’m thankful for my AC on hot nights, but there is nothing like a nice, cool breeze and fresh air for sleeping. Yesterday brought a rain event like we haven’t seen in a very long time. We received a total of 2.05″. The rain began about 7 PM and continued through the overnight with thunder. We were lucky since many areas were affected by damaging winds also. The Chesaning area, which is about 15 miles to our north, had many downed trees and even one collapsed barn.
