A Sunny Thursday Morning In Mid Michigan

A Sunny Thursday Morning In Mid Michigan

It’s always very pleasant to wake up to sunshine, even if the temperatures aren’t what they should be.  Our temps have been about 15-20 degrees below average but that’s about to change.  Each day should be a little warmer and highs should stabilize near normal next week.  Looking ahead, highs on March 14 are projected to be near 60°F.  That would be heavenly! Our 8:45 AM temp is 16°F (-9°C), the humidity is 68% and skies are clear.  The pressure…

A Welcome Warm-Up Coming Soon – Mid Michigan

A Welcome Warm-Up Coming Soon – Mid Michigan

I’m hoping that after these next few days, that we will be finished with the single digit and teen temperatures.  We are expecting highs in the forties this weekend and in the 30s all next week.  Maybe we have finally turned the corner on extreme winter weather.  Today is Ash Wednesday, and as we look forward to the Easter season, I hope the weather does also.  Yesterday was cloudy most of the day with a few peaks of the sun,…

Hopefully, This Is The Last Of Our Frigid Weather – Mid Michigan

Hopefully, This Is The Last Of Our Frigid Weather – Mid Michigan

I have been in the hospital over the past two days, so I’ve been absent from the weather observations.  I know that it was frigid yesterday, and it was a bit of a shock from when I went in on Saturday night.  Today will be a little warmer, but not as much as what we will see this weekend.   Highs should finally reach the 40s and we are all hoping that this single digit stuff is over for the year. …

A Fairly Mild Friday For Mid Michigan

A Fairly Mild Friday For Mid Michigan

This will be one of the nicest days that we’ll have for awhile, even though we  aren’t seeing as much sun as what was predicted.  At least it will be dry with very light winds and highs in the mid 30s.  We better enjoy it because we have another polar vortex heading our way for next week.  Highs will only be in the teens for a few day.  I keep hoping that we’ll get some temperatures warm enough to melt…

Unseasonable Cold Returns To Mid Michigan

Unseasonable Cold Returns To Mid Michigan

We received a few snow showers yesterday leaving us with an additional 0.03 ” of new snow.  Our ground cover is about 2.5 inches at this time and another round of snow is expected this weekend although just an inch or two.  The worse part is that another polar vortex is heading our way next week.  Meteorological spring will begin tomorrow but it will feel like anything but spring.  On the positive side, we seem to be having more sunny…

The Never Ending Winter Continues In Mid Michigan

The Never Ending Winter Continues In Mid Michigan

The picture was taken in Houghton, MI. For those who love snow, they have to be in paradise this year.  It just won’t quit!  Pictures from the U.P. are unbelievable.  I posted some on my Facebook page taken by a student at Michigan Tech up in Houghton. and  I can’t imagine how they will dig out from all of that.  My daughter lived up there 10 years ago and I’m certainly glad that she isn’t there now.  Some areas have…

Michigan Blizzard Leaves County Roads Closed, Power Outages, Wind Damage

Michigan Blizzard Leaves County Roads Closed, Power Outages, Wind Damage

Yesterday was a miserable day in Michigan as well as other states to our south.  We had wind gusts up to 60 mph in places and significant snowfall in some areas.  We only received about an inch of new snow, but Otsego county in northern lower Michigan received about 7 inches of new snow.    All the roads there are closed this morning including portions of I-75.  Surprisingly, there aren’t that many power outages which really is a surprise.  In spite…

Rain, Snow, Winds For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

Rain, Snow, Winds For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

The winds began to roar around 10 AM this morning and it is raising quite a bit of havoc around the state.  The Mackinaw Bridge is closed after a sheet of ice fell from one of the towers onto the windshield of a pickup truck, putting a big hole in it.  Luckily, it was on the passenger side so the driver wasn’t injured.  After that, they closed the bridge.  With these winds, I’m surprised that it was even open at…

Nasty Winter Storm Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

Nasty Winter Storm Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

Tomorrow should be quite interesting with this storm affecting so many states.  Although my area isn’t expecting any snow, winds will be the issue.  There is a high wind watch in effect for tomorrow morning through tomorrow night and a blizzard warning for the U.P.  Wind gusts up to 60 mph can be expected and the State Police are warning everyone that power outages are a real possibility, and they could last for a few days.  Today is my son’s…
