More Stable Weather For Our Weekend – Mid Michigan

More Stable Weather For Our Weekend – Mid Michigan

There are no more storms knocking on our door at the present time, and we can look forward to dry conditions over the next 3-4 days.  At least that’s what our local weather peple are saying.  This NOAA forecast is saying something different.  I guess we’ll have to wait and see who is correct.  I wish that the temperatures were a little warmer so that we could get rid of this hard, crusty snow pack that we have.  We should…

Back To Winter In Mid Michigan

Back To Winter In Mid Michigan

We had a one-day respite from winter yesterday with highs reaching the low to mid 40s.  We lost about half our snow cover but now what is left is hard and crusty.    We just had a brief snow squall move through but it didn’t last long enough to accumulate.  The winds have picked up once again and that will make it even feel colder.  Our snow pack is down to a little less than three inches, but our next 3-4…

Snow Continues But Advisories Have Expired – Mid Michigan

Snow Continues But Advisories Have Expired – Mid Michigan

Altogether, this storm left us with about 5 inches of snow cover.   We were lucky and didn’t get much if any freezing rain like many other areas did.  All advisories for my area have expired although we could still see some snow showers today.  The big issue will be the winds with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Our 9:15 AM temp is 24.3°F (-4°C), the humidity is 82% and winds are from the SW at 15 mph, gusting to…

First Part Of Winter Storm Is Past, But There Is More To Come – Mid Michigan

First Part Of Winter Storm Is Past, But There Is More To Come – Mid Michigan

We received 2.5 inches of snow overnight and I woke to sleet.  There didn’t seem to be any freezing rain however.  Most schools are closed and we are expecting the wrap around effect of this storm to hit later on.  Local predictions are saying another 2-4 inches.  I don’t have  anywhere that I have to be today so I’m happy about that. Our 1 PM temperature is 34.2°F (1°C), the humidity is 92%, and winds are from the NE at…

Same Mess, Different Day – Mid Michigan

Same Mess, Different Day – Mid Michigan

Once again, we are under a winter storm watch from midnight tonight into tomorrow morning.  There seems to be no end to this.  This is expected to include snow, sleet and freezing rain, much like we had a week ago.  Expected snow amounts for my area are 3-6 inches.  We received a little snow late yesterday but only quarter of an inch.  Our total snow cover right now is about 1 inch.  The one good thing is that we aren’t…

A Nice Weekend For February In Mid Michigan

A Nice Weekend For February In Mid Michigan

Saturday was a gorgeous day with clear skies all day and fairly light winds.  Today is cloudy but temps are still fairly mild and there is no precipitation in the forecast until tonight.  I understand that there are more winter storms on our horizon, probably the one that is affecting the Pacific Northwest right now.  My brother, who lives in Seattle, said that the city is at a standstill right now because of lack of snow removal equipment like we…

Sunny Skies With Very Cold Temps For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Sunny Skies With Very Cold Temps For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

It was a joy to see the sun this morning.  Unfortunately,  I can’t say much for our temperatures.  Single digits were the norm.  We had numerous  lake effect snow squalls which left us with half an inch of new snow.  Many were without power because of the strong winds and ice, but we were lucky for a change.  Our highs should be in the normal range today and no additional precip is expected. Our 10 AM temperature is 14°F (-10°C),…

Another Icy Morning – Mid Michigan

Another Icy Morning – Mid Michigan

I am so tired of ice.  My deck is like a skating rink especially since my son shoveled most of the sleet off yesterday.  Now where the sleet is gone, it’s pure smooth ice.  Our highs today should reach the mid 40s and I hope it happens soon.  We’re been lucky that we haven’t lost power although many areas have.  We have a wind advisory for  tonight so we aren’t out of the woods yet. Our 10 AM temperature is…

Ice, Sleet, Freezing Rain For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

Ice, Sleet, Freezing Rain For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

This is really a yucky morning and I’m so glad that I don’t have to go out in it.  My deck had about a half inch of sleet  topped with freezing rain this morning and there was 0.59 ” in my rain gauge after I thawed it out.  A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 pm and the freezing drizzle seems to have ended at this time.  The ground is white but it is sleet, not snow. Our…

Abnormally Warm Weather Continues In Mid Michigan

Abnormally Warm Weather Continues In Mid Michigan

We lost almost all of our snow except where the snow piles were from shoveling and plowing.  I’m hearing that there is another storm knocking on our door, but this one will be a combination of rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain.  The UP is bracing for an ice storm later today and I’m hoping that it remains up there.  If we do get any freezing rain, it isn’t expected to accumulate much.  This morning began with overcast skies, but…
