I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Another Record Broken . . . .

Another high temperature record was broken yesterday by one degree.  The day began with dense fog but then partially cleared through the afternoon.  Today will also be mild but more clouds.  We will see cooler weather the next few days before another round of warmer than normal temps.  This has been a lovely autumn season so far.  I hope it lasts into early winter. Our 12:30 PM temperature is 66°F, the humidity is 74%, and skies are cloudy.  Winds are…

A Little Fog To Start The Day . . . .

A Little Fog To Start The Day . . . .

We had dense fog early this morning but now it is bright and sunny.  It will be a very nice day and warm enough for outdoor activities.  The rain that we got hasn’t lessened the fire danger much, although my area isn’t as bad as further north.  There was a wildfire near Houghton Lake but I haven’t heard anything about it lately, so I assume that it is under control. Our 12 noon temperature is 60°F, the humidity is 78%,…

Cool, Sunny, And Breezy . . . . .

We have another beautiful autumn day although a little on the chilly side.  But considering that it is October, it is very nice.  Highs today will again reach above average and no precipitation in the forecast for the immediate future.  I didn’t see any frost this morning but I didn’t get up very early either.  I still brought my hanging plants in, just to be safe. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 65°F, the humidity is 40%, and skies are mostly…

Our First Frost

Our First Frost

We had our first frost of the season last night.  I brought my hanging plants in because I’m not ready to  part with them yet.  Besides that, we have more warm weather coming next week.  We won’t see the 80s or   90s again, but not cold enough for a frost. Our 2 PM temperature is 58°F, the humidity is 46%. and skies are mostly clear.  The pressure is 30.37 in and falling.  Winds are from the east at 3-6 mph,…

Much Cooler After Much Needed Rain . . .

Much Cooler After Much Needed Rain . . .

After the rain ended yesterday afternoon, skies cleared and it became very pleasant outdoors.  Today we have plenty of sun, but temperatures are cold compared to what we’ve had.  Highs will do well to even reach 60°F.  We received almost an inch of rain and it looks like that will do it for awhile.  There isn’t anymore expected anytime soon. Our 1:15 PM temperature is 56°F, the humidity is 42%, and skies are mostly clear.  Winds are from the north…

Rain And Much Colder . . . .

Rain And Much Colder . . . .

The rain began late last night and continued until late this morning.  We received just under an inch.   Last night was the full moon, and temperatures were warm, so we sat out for about an hour.  We figured that we couldn’t waste such a beautiful evening.   This time of year, you can sit outdoors and not get carried away by mosquitoes.  The only trouble is that it’s usually too chilly to really enjoy it.  Last night was ideal. Our 2…

Another Record Breaker . . . .

We broke another high temp record yesterday, but we will see the weather turning the corner for more normal temperatures on Tuesday.  It was nice while it lasted.  Rain is expected to usher in the cooler weather and we could see some thunderstorms.  Hopefully, none will be damaging. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 82°F, the humidity is 48%, and winds are from the SW at 5-13 mph, and the pressure is 29.99 in and falling.  The dew point is 59°F…

Summer-Like Weather Coming To An End . . . .

Summer-Like Weather Coming To An End . . . .

We should enjoy this next two days because summer will be over, weather-wise.  We could still see some 70s but nothing like we have had lately.  Today and tomorrow will be pleasant, but then Tuesday will bring much cooler temps and rain. Our 3 PM temperature is 84°F, the humidity is 35% and skies are partly cloudy.  Winds are from the SSE at 7-14 mph and the pressure is 30.04 in and falling.  The dew point is 52°F and visibility…

Another Hot Day . . . .

Another Hot Day . . . .

Having 90 degree weather in Michigan in October is unheard of, except for this year.  I’m sure that we broke another record today as our high reached 89°F.  There were kayakers down at the river enjoying their last chance before the cold front comes next week.  I’m sure that many of them never went kayaking in October before in this state.  One of our local TV weathermen said yesterday, that the coast guard is late pulling the buoys in for…

Record Breaking Highs Today . . . .

Record Breaking Highs Today . . . .

Our temperatures today will reach well into the upper 80s.  This is amazing for early October.  Usually the AC is off for the year by now, and this will continue at least through the weekend.  Then it looks like normal weather will be upon us and we could see our first frost next week.  It’s about time. Our 1PM temp is 83°F, the humidity is 34%.  Skies are clear and winds are from the SW at 2-5 mph.  The pressure…
