Another Comfortable Day In Mid Michigan

Another Comfortable Day In Mid Michigan

We had another great day with nice temperatures in the low 70s, and low humidity.  We need to enjoy it because more hot weather in on the way this weekend.  The low last night fell into the low 40s, and I had to turn the furnace on this morning.  Highs are expected to reach the 90s again and will remain until mid week.  The holiday weekend should be perfect for those going camping, maybe for the last time this year. …

A Cool But Sunny Day In Mid Michigan

A Cool But Sunny Day In Mid Michigan

Yesterday brought a couple of thundershowers which left 0.22″ in my rain gauge.  They didn’t last long but produced moderate rainfall when they came.  We really didn’t need them but the remainder of the week is supposed to be dry.  Not only that, but we have another round of hot weather knocking on our door.  I’m seeing that September is suppose to be quite warm, and I won’t complain about that.  I love warm autumns. Our 1:15 PM temperature is…

More Thunderstorms In Our Forecast – Mid Michigan

More Thunderstorms In Our Forecast – Mid Michigan

Our morning is pleasant but we are expecting more storms this afternoon.  We certainly don’t need any more rain for awhile as our yard hasn’t totally dried out from last Thursday.  But it is what it is, and at least we aren’t dealing with what Florida is expecting.  It sure doesn’t sound good for them, especially since hurricane winds aren’t expected to diminish as it crosses the state.  I wouldn’t want to deal with that every hurricane season.  I guess…

Much Cooler Weather In Mid Michigan

Much Cooler Weather In Mid Michigan

Today has been a perfect day with low humidity, cool temps, and light breezes.  Yesterday started out cloudy but then the skies became partly cloudy in the afternoon.   This entire week is expected to see below normal temperature, but then a big warmup for the holiday weekend.  That should make a lot of people happy. Our 3:15 PM temperature is 72°F (22°C), the humidity is 56%, and skies are mostly clear.  The pressure is 30.00 in (1015.9mb) and falling.  Winds…

Cleanup After The Storms – Mid Michigan

Cleanup After The Storms – Mid Michigan

There was a lot of damage from Thursday night’s storms.  There were six confirmed tornadoes just in the Detroit area.  Then there were two in Livingston County and another near Grand Rapids.  The weather forecast for Thursday called for severe thunderstorms, and they weren’t kidding.  We were lucky.  No loss of power or any other damage to our property.   We received over two inches of rain Thursday and now the lawn is like a sponge.  We are expected to have…

Powerful Thunderstorms Arrived As Promised – Mid Michigan

Powerful Thunderstorms Arrived As Promised – Mid Michigan

We were warned of the possibility of severe weather yesterday, and the storms that happened were “overachievers” according to one meteorologist.  The above picture shows the radar from yesterday and you can see the massive amount of lightning strikes.  There are many in the state without power and much structural and tree damage.  I haven’t heard the number of actual tornadoes, but with hurricane-force winds, it didn’t really matter.  Yes, winds that came with this storm were recorded at 70-80…

Severe Weather A Real Possibility in Mid Michigan

Severe Weather A Real Possibility in Mid Michigan

Heavy thunderstorms moved over the eastern half of the lower peninsula yesterday morning and afternoon, dropping as much as 5 inches of rain in some areas near Detroit.  It was a cool day until late in the afternoon when it cleared up a bit.  That’s when it really got hot.  Highs were in the upper 80s to 90 degrees, but our heat index was 115°F due to the high dew point.  Local weather gurus said that it is a rarity…

A Cool, Rainy Day In Mid Michigan

A Cool, Rainy Day In Mid Michigan

We started the day with showers, then thunderstorms moved in from the northwest.  Most of them stayed to our north and east although there is lightning showing up on my weather station. My son had to have emergency eye surgery yesterday, so we spent most of our day at U of M in Ann Arbor.  We had to take him back this morning for a recheck, so we just got home about half an hour ago.  We ran into some…

A Bit Cooler For Our Monday – Mid Michigan

A Bit Cooler For Our Monday – Mid Michigan

We had sun this morning, but now the clouds have moved in.   Temperatures are comfortable and breezes are light.  Although skies are cloudy, there is no mention of rain in our forecast.  The clouds keep it cool so no complaints from me. Our 4 PM temperature is 76°F (24°C)  , the humidity is 68%, and winds are from the NE at 3-6 mp.  The dew point is 60°F (16°C) and the pressure is 30.18 in (1022.0 mb) and falling.  Yesterday’s…

It’s Going To Be A Hot One . . . . . . Mid Michigan

It’s Going To Be A Hot One . . . . . . Mid Michigan

Our comfortable weather is over for a few days so I don’t think I’ll be spending much time outdoors today.  Highs could reach close to 90 degrees with the humidity on the rise.  Also, we are seeing smoke from the Canadian wildfires once again, although it seems to be staying above us.  The sky has a dirty brownish blue color.  There is no rain expected anytime soon, and  I’m glad I’m not is southern California. I just found out that…
