Sunny, Bright, But Not Very Warm – Mid Michigan

Sunny, Bright, But Not Very Warm – Mid Michigan

It is really lovely to look out the window and see such a bright day.  We have total snow ground cover and it won’t be quite warm enough to melt much of it.  But temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s all next week, so I’m not expecting the snow to last long.  Tomorrow is meteorologically the first day of spring and I think that it will feel like it.  We can definitely notice more daylight and the sun…

Winter Storm Not So Bad – Mid Michigan

Winter Storm Not So Bad – Mid Michigan

Our winter storm was a bit of a fizzle from what was originally predicted and that’s fine with me.  We have about 4 to 5 inches on the ground depending where it is measured.  Today is still bringing a little lake effect snow showers but not enough to add to the snow pack.  Winds are very strong causing a lot of blowing and drifting and I’ve seen the sun trying to peek out a few times.  I’m just glad that…

Three To Four Inches Of Snow Expected For Our Wednesday

Three To Four Inches Of Snow Expected For Our Wednesday

The snow began late last night and dropped 1.3 inches by 8 AM.  It is now increasing in intensity and another 3-4 inches is expected by midnight.  Winds are expected to pick up later and it will be a challenging day to be out and about.  I think I’ll just stay home. Our 10 AM temperature is 29°F (-2°C), the humidity is 88% and skies are cloudy with moderate snow.  Winds are from the NNE at 4-9 mph, and the…

Winter Storm Watch In Effect For Southern Lower Michigan

Winter Storm Watch In Effect For Southern Lower Michigan

A winter storm watch is in effect from late tonight through late Wednesday night for my area.  Total snow accumulations of 4-to 8 inches are expected, and this includes all of southeast Michigan.  This will be the result of two merging low pressure centers right over us.  We knew that it was going to happen since Mother Nature has let us off easy this winter season.  High temperatures will be in the 20s all week, so it doesn’t appear that…

Our Taste Of Spring Is Over – Mid Michigan

Our Taste Of Spring Is Over – Mid Michigan

We will start seeing a change in the weather tonight as a winter weather system moves in over the next few days.  We aren’t expecting any great amounts of snow, maybe up to 5 inches total over the next 3 days.  We can deal with that.  Highs will  be in the mid 20s to near freezing.  Much of it will be a rain / snow mix so total snow amounts are hard to predict at this time.  We really shouldn’t…

Our Warmest Day Of The Week – Mid Michigan

Our Warmest Day Of The Week – Mid Michigan

Today will be very warm for late February, but we are told that winter will return with a vengeance mid week.  We could see highs near 50° today and plenty of sun.  The only negative will be the winds.  But we certainly can’t complain about how this winter has been. Our 9:15 AM temp is 36°F  (2°C), the humidity is 60%, and skies are clear.  Winds are from the west at 3-7 mph.  Visibility is 10 miles.  The pressure is…

A Beautfil Spring-Like Day Ahead For Mid Michigan

A Beautfil Spring-Like Day Ahead For Mid Michigan

This is expected to be a very nice weekend with very warm temps and plenty of sun.  We are celebrating my oldest son’s birthday so I’m very happy that the weather will be nice.  This morning isn’t quite a chilly as it has been and our snow cover remains at around 50%.  I expect that to be gone by tomorrow night. Our 9:15 AM temp is 31°F (-1°C), the humidity is 63% and skies are clear.  Winds are from the…

We Are In A Rare Sunny Period For This Time Of Year – Mid Michigan

We Are In A Rare Sunny Period For This Time Of Year – Mid Michigan

We are expecting plenty of sun over the next 3 to 4 days, and that just doesn’t happen in February in Michigan.  Although our current temp is only 24°F, there seems to be quite a bit of melting out there in the sun.  Our snow cover has dwindled to about 50% and that will probably be gone by late Sunday.  They are now telling us that we can expect an early spring and that seems to be happening.   I hesitate…

A Cool Couple Of Days, Then A Big Warmup Again – Mid Michigan

A Cool Couple Of Days, Then A Big Warmup Again – Mid Michigan

For southern Michigan, this has been the type of winter that makes you think that you’ll never dread winter again.  Today is sunny and looking outdoors, one would think that it’s a day in April.  We have lost about half of our snow pack, and even though it is quite cold, the sun makes it seem much warmer and much of the snow is melting.  We have another period of above normal temps coming for the weekend and the next…

Mild And Windy For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

Mild And Windy For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

We received about an inch of snow late last night but it was all melted this morning when I woke.   Winds have now increased and skies are cloudy.  Our snow cover is about 80% and I expect that the warmer temps will do away with much of it today.  This winter has been a welcome experience for us after what we had last year.  It almost doesn’t seem like we had any winter.  This was supposed to be a very…
