Heading Back Up To the North Country of Michigan

Heading Back Up To the North Country of Michigan

We will be going back to our campground today and the weather sounds good for traveling.  There is no rain in the forecast and temperatures will be comfortable.  Unfortunately, there are more 90s coming for the weekend with the chance of showers and thunderstorms, but only hit and miss at that.  It should be a good week.  I don’t know if you’ll be hearing from me because the WiFi up there is also hit and miss.  I’ll try though. Our…

A Mix Of Clouds And Sun For our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

A Mix Of Clouds And Sun For our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

There are numerous showers popping up on radar but they all seem to  be missing us.  I expected to hear the rumble of thunder overnight but no such luck.  Everything was dry this morning.  We’ll be heading up to the campground tomorrow and I’m hoping that nothing got blown away with the storms of last weekend.  This coming weekend should be more quiet although with another round of uncomfortably hot weather. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 81°F (27°C), the humidity…

A Brief Cooling Period For Mid Michigan

A Brief Cooling Period For Mid Michigan

Yesterday was quite comfortable, and today will be also .  But there is more hot weather knocking on the door and that is expected by the weekend.  We’ll be heading up to our campground on Thursday, just in time for it.  I’m hoping that it won’t be quite as hot up there but that hasn’t been the case lately.  What will be will be. Our 9:45 AM temp is 67°F (19°C), the humidity is 72%, and skies are cloudy.  Winds…

A Pleasant Monday After a Stormy Sunday – Mid Michigan

A Pleasant Monday After a Stormy Sunday – Mid Michigan

Severe thunderstorms rocked northern Michigan early yesterday causing damage to a school in Cheboygan, and many trees down across the northern areas of the state.  Even our campground had some damage done, mainly awning damage and large tree branches down.  The Topinabee / Indian River area was under a tornado warning for awhile on Saturday afternoon, so I’m glad that we were not up there.  The school in Cheboygan definitely looks like tornado damage but I haven’t heard the official…

A Stormy Sunday For Michigan

A Stormy Sunday For Michigan

This radar image was from this morning when a line of thunderstorms moved across the state, causing severe storm warnings in various places.   We were under a warning briefly, but there was nothing here that was severe.  Yes, there was plenty of thunder and lightning but rain amounts were only 0.15″.  I’m hearing that a tornado was spotted near Roscommon but haven’t heard of any damage reports.  Durand is shown in the lower portion of the image and we just…

Typical Summer Weather For Mid Michigan

Typical Summer Weather For Mid Michigan

We took a drive to Sleeper State Park in Caseville yesterday.  Caseville is in the thumb area of the state and was a favorite camping destination for us when my kids were little.  We hadn’t been there in years and I was curious as to how much of the beach was lost to the record water levels of Lake Huron.  Needless to say, much of the beach was gone.  There was only about 20-30 ft of sand left compared to…

A Wet Beginning To Our Thursday – Mid Michigan

A Wet Beginning To Our Thursday – Mid Michigan

Rain began around 3 AM this morning and left 0.50″ in my gauge.  It was very welcome and exceeded the predictions.  Light rain continues at this time but radar is showing that it won’t last much longer.  Regardless, we’re thankful for what we did get. Our 8:45 AM temp is 68F (20C), the humidity is 99%, and skies are overcast with light rain.  Winds are ENE at 0-4 mph, and the pressure is 29.92 in (1013.2 mb) and steady.  The…

Another Heat Wave Coming Soon – Mid Michigan

Another Heat Wave Coming Soon – Mid Michigan

We complained when it was cold, and now we complain because it’s too hot.  Why can’t the weather ever reach a happy medium?  At least we got some very beneficial rain last week and the lawn has greened up again.  Storms are in our forecast for tomorrow and early Thursday with the possibility of some being severe, but I’m not seeing any significant cooling following that.  I guess it is what it is and we’ll remember this when we’re knee…

Another Cool Day In Mid Michigan

Another Cool Day In Mid Michigan

Yesterday was as perfect as a summer day in Michigan can be.  Temperatures were comfortable and the humidity and dew points were low.  There was just enough breeze to open the windows and give the AC a rest.  Today should be about the same but maybe not quite as much sun.  There is no rain in the forecast until tomorrow when the heat will return.  Highs in the 90s are expected once again for the weekend. Our 9:30 AM temp…

Much Cooler Today In Mid Michigan

Much Cooler Today In Mid Michigan

After all the heat of last week, today feels really refreshing.  Highs are only expected to be around 80° and that’s sounds wonderful to me.  We may just be able to give the AC a rest.  We have a few clouds this morning but there isn’t any rain in the forecast for today.  Maybe I can get out and get some weeding done. Our 8:45 AM temp is 66°F (19°C), the humidity is 81%, and skies are partly cloudy.  The…
