A Beautiful Day In Mid Michigan

A Beautiful Day In Mid Michigan

Our weather is shaping up to be a great start for the first of October.  We are getting into the frost season and it won’t be long until the summer flowers will all be gone.  My Mums are all open and will resist the frost as will the roses.  Once they’re gone, then it will be snow season.  I’m not looking forward to that but I am looking forward to being back on standard time.  My body has never adjusted…

Fair Weather For Mid Michigan

Fair Weather For Mid Michigan

Yesterday was dreary and cold.  It really set the mood for following Hurricane Ian on YouTube, riding along with the storm chasers.  I have many relatives and friends in Florida and I’m still concerned for those that I haven’t heard from yet.  Unfortunately, some are in the Fort Myers area.  My sister/brother-in-law who owns and runs the cabins in Cheboygan, were very concerned about their home in New Port Richey, and their daughter who lives in Tampa.  It was big…

Another Rainy Day In Mid Michigan

Another Rainy Day In Mid Michigan

We had intermittent rain showers yesterday which produced 0.18″ of rain.  Today is turning out to be much the same.  We did start the day with some sun, but it didn’t last long.  Temperatures are a little cooler today with highs only reaching the mid 50s.  We’re making up for those above-average temps that we had most of September.  I’ve been watching coverage of Hurricane Ian as it moves closer to the west coast of Florida.  I have quite a…

Really Feels Like Fall Today – Mid Michigan

Really Feels Like Fall Today – Mid Michigan

Temperatures aren’t expected to even reach 60F today, and this will continue for the next 3 days.  At least we don’t have to worry about a hurricane, although some weather gurus are saying that it could head in our direction later on.  I’m feeling anxious for the people in Florida right now.  My In-laws, who have the cabins in Cheboygan, live just north of Tampa and they are getting ready to close the cabins for the year and head back…

Wet, Cloudy And Chilly For Our Beginning Of Autumn – Mid Michigan

Wet, Cloudy And Chilly For Our Beginning Of Autumn – Mid Michigan

It’s as if Mother Nature decided that now that summer is officially over, we should be getting fall weather.  No more warm temperatures for us!  We went from AC weather to running the furnace almost overnight.  Local forecasters are even telling us that they don’t see any warmth coming anytime soon.  So I guess it’s time to brace ourselves for what we know is coming.  I’m still hoping for some nice, sunny days, even if we have to wear jackets. …

High Humidity, Storms Coming To An End – Mid Michigan

High Humidity, Storms Coming To An End – Mid Michigan

Yesterday brought thunderstorms which lasted from 5 PM to near 10 PM.  There was one after another with a lot of lightning, some striking very close to us.  Heavy rainfall left 1.35″ in my gauge this morning.  This morning, we had another line of storms develop, following the same path as last night, but they fell apart before reaching us.  We were under a severe TS watch for awhile.  Right now it is cloudy and breezy, but very warm.  This…

Rain Is Knocking On Our Door – Mid Michigan

Rain Is Knocking On Our Door – Mid Michigan

We haven’t had any rain yet, but the radar is showing it getting very close.  The remainder of my flowers would greatly appreciate it.  Rain has been sparse this month, and that’s a bit strange for September in Michigan.  It’s looking like we’ll definitely get some, but how much is the big question.  Today and tomorrow will be the last of the summer-like temps, probably for the remainder of the year.  Thunderstorms are in the forecast for tomorrow as the…

Overnight Storms Missed Us – Mid Michigan

Overnight Storms Missed Us – Mid Michigan

Southern portions of the state saw some  hefty thunderstorms overnight, but we weren’t that lucky.  I am seeing some lightning strikes on my weather station but all we got in rain was 0.01″. Some areas received up to an inch.  Today is anything but stormy with plenty of sun and a few clouds floating by.  Temperatures are expected to be a little above average and it should be a nice summer-like day, probably one of the last.  The remainder of…

Enjoying Our 80 Degree Weather While It Lasts – Mid Michigan

Enjoying Our 80 Degree Weather While It Lasts – Mid Michigan

We will have temperatures in the low to mid 80s these next few days, then I’m pretty sure they’ll be gone for the year.  But being Michigan, one never knows.  Today is beautiful with clear skies and just enough breeze to keep it comfortable.  This is supposed to last through Tuesday, then Wednesday it will start feeling like fall.  We had a shower pass over last night giving us 0.09″ of rain, barely enough to wet the surface, and there…

Lovely September Weather In Mid Michigan

Lovely September Weather In Mid Michigan

This morning is absolutely lovely but I’m hearing that big changes will be coming next week.  This weather can certainly spoil you, but we know what’s ahead.  I’m seeing changes in the foliage  with a little more color every day.  Pictures being posted from northern Michigan are showing almost peak color in the UP already.  It will be a while for that to happen here.  A local meteorologist is saying that there will be more northern lights in the next…
