More Rain, Strong Winds, and Very Warm Temps for Mid Michigan

More Rain, Strong Winds, and Very Warm Temps for Mid Michigan

This has been a strange summer for us.  There is too much rain, very few hot days, and too much wind.  I thought that by now the weather pattern would change, but it doesn’t seem to be.   There was heavy rain once again for the northern areas of the state with almost 3 inches reported near the bridge.  I’m glad we are home.  We received 0.04″ here overnight, just enough to get things a little wet.  It’s hard to believe…

A Little Sun Before the Rain in Mid Michigan

A Little Sun Before the Rain in Mid Michigan

Our morning was beautiful but now clouds are rolling in.   We’re expecting rain by tonight but nothing severe.  We didn’t get the rain down here that the northern counties of our state got, but we still don’t need anymore for awhile.  Unfortunately, we don’t have much to say about it. Our 12 noon temp is 74.7°F (24°C), the humidity is 48%, and winds are from the SSW at 9 mph.  The pressure is 30.07 in (1018.0 mb) and steady.  Visibility…

A Sunny Morning in Northern Michigan

A Sunny Morning in Northern Michigan

Monday was a complete wash-out with rain all day.  Yes, we got a few breaks that lasted about 15 mins, but then more rain.  Highs never even reached 60°F and that was almost 20° below normal.  But what can I say?  This has been a very wet spring in Michigan, especially here in the north.  Our next trip up here will be the end of July and I sure hope that it improves by then.  We’ll be heading home…

More Rain For Northern Michigan

More Rain For Northern Michigan

Woke this morning to the sound of rain on the roof, not a pleasant sound when you are camping.  My storm radar is showing no letup until around noon.  Then, off-and-on showers continuing throughout the day.  This certainly isn’t the way we wanted our last day here to be spent.  I checked are CoCoRahs stations around this area and most are showing around 1/3 inch of rain since yesterday. Right now (9 AM EDT), our temperature is 55°F, the humidity…

Cool Weather Following Massive Rains in Mid Michigan

Cool Weather Following Massive Rains in Mid Michigan

I’ve seen the pictures of washed-out roads following Friday’s heavy rains in mid Michigan.  The Mt. Pleasant area, as well as other surrounding areas, received up to 8 inches of rain and many farmers already lost what they had planted.  Here in northern Michigan, we fared much better.  South of us had rain almost all day on Saturday while we had mostly sun.  There was a light shower around 10 pm but didn’t amount to much more than an annoyance. …

Heavy Rain, Severe Flooding Hit Mid Michigan

Heavy Rain, Severe Flooding Hit Mid Michigan

Yesterday was just as nice as Thursday was awful.  We lucked out here in northern Michigan, as well as at home.  Our total rainfall at home was 0.84 inches while the mid portions of lower Michigan recorded as much ass 8 inches from this storm.  There are many closed roads due to flooding and some were even totally washed out.   My relatives at the Stoney Point cabins recorded an inch total.  Mother Nature, however, made up for it yesterday with…

A Wonderful Sunny Day in Northern Michigan

A Wonderful Sunny Day in Northern Michigan

After our Thursday being almost a complete wash out, today is absolutely wonderful.   The rain, which was supposed to continue into this morning, ended during the early evening, and we were able to have a campfire last night.  At home, the storms continued this morning and my son reported that there was 0.80 in in my gauge as of 9 AM.  Here in Cheboygan, my sister-in-law reported an inch of rain at the cabins.  In spite of rain, our temps…

Wet Thursday Morning in Indian River, MI

Wet Thursday Morning in Indian River, MI

Although they are saying that today won’t be a total washout, one would be a bit skeptical looking at the radar.  We haven’t had much rain so far, but it looks like there is a lot more on the way.  it rained fairly hard around 6 AM but it didn’t last long.  Most seems to be to our south, at least for now.  Camping isn’t a very pleasant experience when it rains all day. Our 8:30 AM temp is 59°F…

Brisk, Cool Weather in Northern Michigan

Brisk, Cool Weather in Northern Michigan

This morning is bright but chilly.  Our trip yesterday was uneventful and we made good time with very little traffic.  we did run into a little rain on the way up but just a few sprinkles.  Today should be a nice one with no rain in the forecast and warmer temps.   Durand received 0.02″ of rain with clearing skies toward late afternoon and evening. Our Topinabee 8:30 am temp is 59.2°F, winds are from the NW at 3 mph, and…

A Lovely Cool-Down For our Trip North (Mid Michigan)

A Lovely Cool-Down For our Trip North (Mid Michigan)

It is cool and breezy this morning.  Yesterday brought popcorn showers and thunderstorms to the state and we got one which only lasted about 5 minutes, but it was a very hard rain.  There was 0.05″ in my gauge this morning.  Other than that, our Monday was dry and windy.  We will be heading north to Indian River this morning and it appears that we will be having cool weather there for the week.  There is also a little rain…
