A Calm, Uneventful, Winter Day In Mid Michigan

A Calm, Uneventful, Winter Day In Mid Michigan

Today is just another much like the past 3 or 4.  Winds are fairly calm, temps are hovering right around freezing, and there isn’t much sun. It did, however, peek out a few times earlier today.  Our snow cover continues to be about 40% and there hasn’t been much thawing the past few days.  We are looking forward to temperatures back in the 40s on Sunday and Monday.  There were some very light snow showers this morning but the snow…

Weather Wise, More Of The Same – Mid Michigan

Weather Wise, More Of The Same – Mid Michigan

Our weather has remained constant with very little changes expected in the near future.  I guess that’s a good thing.  Little by little, our snow cover is disappearing and we now have about 50%.  Temperatures are remaining in the upper 20s to low 30s with very little precipitation.  This is the time of year when we usually get our coldest weather, but it’s not happening.  It’s been a very tame winter to be sure.  At least so far. Our 9:30…

A Little Bit Of Winter For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

A Little Bit Of Winter For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

This has been a strange January.  Our temperatures have been mild and most precipitation has been rain.  Any snow that we have received has been light with little accumulation.  In fact, most of our snow cover is now gone. January in Michigan is supposed to be very cold with a lot of snow, and it just hasn’t happened yet this winter.  We are a little over a month away from meteorological spring (March 1) and winter has deluded us so…

It’s A Wet, Dreary, Sort-Of-Warm Sunday In Mid Michigan

It’s A Wet, Dreary, Sort-Of-Warm Sunday In Mid Michigan

It isn’t really warm but still much above average for this date.  After what the Farmers Almanac predicted, everyone was so sure that we were going to be snowed in this winter.  It’s been anything but.  We continue to have about 1.5 in of snow cover at this time, and we’ve been chipping away and the ice pack on our deck.  We finally have most of it broken up so we can shovel it off.  Good riddance.  Seeing the sun…

Rain And Drizzle For Our Friday – Mid Michigan

Rain And Drizzle For Our Friday – Mid Michigan

Our snow pack is now down to 2.5 inches and still melting.  I can’t believe how warm our winter has been so far.  Frankenmuth is having their winter festival with all the ice and snow carvings.  This rain certainly hasn’t been helping them any.  At least temps will be comfortable for those who attend.  We aren’t expecting any sun today and it should be much like yesterday.  We are shoveling more of the ice off our deck little by little,…

A Little Warmer In Mid Michigan

A Little Warmer In Mid Michigan

Today will be the first that we will see temps above the freezing mark this week.  I’m hoping that the ice on my deck melts enough where I can scoop it up with my snow shovel.  We aren’t expecting any precipitation until possibly tomorrow and I think that it will be rain or possibly a rain / snow mix.  I saw a prediction for the remaining winter for us, and it is for relatively mild weather.  That wouldn’t break my…

Cloudy And Seasonable Temps In Mid Michigan

Cloudy And Seasonable Temps In Mid Michigan

We are getting a few peeks of the sun this morning although the sky is mostly cloudy.  Temperatures should be a little warmer, and if the sun would be out for a while, we could get rid of some of this ice.  That’s the trouble with ice storms.  Afterward, it always get very cold and we’re stuck with it until the next good thaw.  And we never know how soon that will happen.  At least there aren’t any big storms…

Sunny But Very Chilly In Mid Michigan

Sunny But Very Chilly In Mid Michigan

Yesterday started off with sun, but then the clouds rolled in by  afternoon.  We had a few light snow showers but no new snow accumulations.  We have about 5 inches of snow cover right now, and temperatures will remain cold enough that I don’t think that it’s going anywhere soon.  We are expecting some warming over the next few days but no heat wave by any means.  At least today and tomorrow are expected to be mostly sunny. Our 9:15…

Continued Snow Through Our Weekend – Mid Michigan

Continued Snow Through Our Weekend – Mid Michigan

It started snowing Friday night and hasn’t stopped since.  We did lose a little yesterday between snow showers, and last night we had a period of rain which melted a little.  Today, it’s been snowing since I got up.  When I measured at 9 AM,  we had about 4.75″ of snow/ice cover.  Now it looks like we picked up an additional inch since then.  Temperatures won’t make it our of the 20s today but that’s okay.  After all, it is…

Another Winter Storm For This Weekend – Mid Michigan

Another Winter Storm For This Weekend – Mid Michigan

We have yet another storm knocking on our door, but this time it should be snow, not ice.  It is expected to begin tonight and last through most of tomorrow.  The winter weather advisory is from midnight tonight until noon tomorrow.  Snow amounts are expected to be around 3-6 inches.  That’s much better than ice.  A winter weather advisory is in effect for all of southern lower Michigan.  Our morning is beginning with mostly cloudy skies but we are supposed…
