Hellish Temperatures Gripping Michigan and Most of the Nation

Hellish Temperatures Gripping Michigan and Most of the Nation

What can be said about this weather except we complained back in April that we didn’t think that summer would ever come.  Now it’s too hot.  A heat advisory is in effect for most of the upcoming week, and many places will see highs in the triple digits today.  For us, the heat index will be that high but not the actual temperature.  To make it worse, the humidity and dew points will also be at very uncomfortable levels.  This…

Staying Dry In Northern Michigan

Staying Dry In Northern Michigan

Looking at the radar this morning, it appears that the southern half of the state is getting doused.  Here in Topinabee, we have nice temperatures and plenty of sun.  The rain forecast that we had earlier this week has been changed and I’m happy about that.   Today was supposed to be cloudy but it hasn’t been so far.  Rain has been totally dropped from the forecast but we could see fog over the next several mornings.  We are going to…

Tuesday Morning in Northern Michigan

Tuesday Morning in Northern Michigan

Yesterday was a perfect day although a little on the cool side.  At least it was dry, however there is rain in the forecast for tomorrow once again.  I’m hoping that it totally misses us.  Rain is a pain when one is camping although we are very comfortable in our new trailer.  The worst part is trying to keep the floors clean.  In fact, that’s almost impossible.  But it is what it is and we’ll just deal with it. Our…

Mostly Rainy And Cool In Northern Michigan

Mostly Rainy And Cool In Northern Michigan

We got here on Thursday and have been so busy that I haven’t had time to blog. The first day was nice but we had mostly rain yesterday and this morning.  Highs today won’t even reach 70°, but with the sun, it doesn’t feel too bad. We have a new trailer this year and  it’s like moving into a new home . . . . we can’t find anything.  But little by little we’re getting settled.  Now if it would…

Much Cooler Temperatures For Our Tuesday in Mid Michigan

Much Cooler Temperatures For Our Tuesday in Mid Michigan

It seems that the 90s are gone for a while and temperatures are back to where they should be.  That’s a relief.  I don’t do well at all when temps get much above 80°F.  We received a few showers late yesterday which left 0.20″ in my gauge.  We could see a few more today but no great amounts are expected.  We are getting ready to head north for a week and will be leaving on Thursday morning.  My daily reports…

Temperatures Much Too Warm For My Liking – Mid Michigan

Temperatures Much Too Warm For My Liking – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was just too hot to even step outdoors with highs reaching 93°F.  Fortunately, thunderstorms will be passing through later today and bringing cooler air with it.  On the down side, there is a chance for severe weather to develop.  This morning is breezy and mostly cloudy.  Walking outside is like going into a sauna. Our 10 AM temperature is 83°F (28°C), the humidity is 67%, and the dew point is 72°F (22°C).  Skies are mostly cloudy and storms are…

Heat In Lower Michigan, Devastating Floods In The Upper Peninsula

Heat In Lower Michigan, Devastating Floods In The Upper Peninsula

While my area is baking in 90° temperatures, heavy storms have wreaked havoc in Michigan’s Copper Country.  My daughter lived in Houghton for three years and I’m so happy that she isn’t there now.  I have attached a link to a local News source there: http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/content/news/Flooding-in-Houghton-County-485767571.html We have been fortunate that our rain has finally subsided and any that formed yesterday missed us.   Fortunately, another cool down is expected on Tuesday and that should bring us back to normal termperatures….

A Quiet Saturday Morning After Overnight Rain – Mid Michigan

A Quiet Saturday Morning After Overnight Rain – Mid Michigan

Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved across our state during the overnight leaving 0.14″ in my gauge.  Radar is still showing a few but no large amounts are expected today.  The issue this weekend will be the heat with highs in the mid 80s to 90°F in the forecast. Our 8:45 AM temperature is 69°F (21°C), the humidity is 82% and skies are cloudy.  The dew point is 64°F (18°C) .  The pressure is 29.97 in and falling.  Winds are calm…

Clear And Dry For Our Friday Morning – Mid Michigan

Clear And Dry For Our Friday Morning – Mid Michigan

It seems like the perfect summer morning with light breezes, bright sunlight, and low humidity.  This has been quite an extended dry spell for us and it is welcome to be sure.  With all the rain we’ve had, the lawn mower has been working overtime and maybe it can get a rest for a change.  Our next chance for rain is Sunday and that is quite slim.  We’re waiting for this hot, dry summer that was predicted a few months…

Breezy and Cool This Thursday Morning – Mid Michigan

Breezy and Cool This Thursday Morning – Mid Michigan

This morning is cool although highs are expected to reach the low to mid 80s this afternoon.  No rain is expected over the next few days, so our lawn should have a chance to dry out.  The rain, which was in our forecast, remained well to our south.  This morning is very comfortable with low humidity and dew points, and it was nice having the windows open all night. Our 8:30 AM temperature is 64°F (18°C), the humidity is 60%…
