Preparing For Our First Major Snowstorm – Mid Michigan

Preparing For Our First Major Snowstorm – Mid Michigan

There seems to be some difference of opinions on how much snow we’re supposed to get, but the majority of weather gurus in our area seem to be set on 3-6 inches.  A few others are saying that it could be as much as 8 inches.  It is supposed to start later today as rain, and end sometime Sunday morning.  It’s at times like this when I’m happy to be retired and don’t have to drive in it.  What’s worse…

Possible Winter Storm On The Way for Mid Michigan

Possible Winter Storm On The Way for Mid Michigan

We are expecting what could be a major winter storm on Saturday night and into Sunday.  Forecasters haven’t given us a definite snow amount yet but it could be significant.  The guestiment at this time is 6+ inches for our area.  Thankfully, Friday is supposed to get quite warm and hopefully all this ice will melt first.  As for today, temps aren’t expected to rise much above where they are right now, so not much of a thaw today.  Our…

Last Week of December In Mid Michigan

Last Week of December In Mid Michigan

December has been mild and temperatures have been above average most of the month.  We haven’t seen much in the way of snow, and what we did get, melted right away.  We had some snow showers late yesterday which dropped almost two inches, but it has been thawing all morning so we already lost much of it. Our snow cover is about 90% at this time, and there is talk of an impending storm for mostly the middle portions of…

Colder Temps For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

Colder Temps For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

After a mild day yesterday, today is much cooler.  Our deck was a glare of ice this morning and I found out the hard way.  But all is well and nothing hurt but my pride.  Highs today aren’t expected to rise much above freezing but I hope it’s enough to thaw my deck.  We did lose quite a bit of snow yesterday but still have plenty left.  There are more weather systems heading our way which could make our New…

Overnight Snow Whitens Our World – Mid Michigan

Overnight Snow Whitens Our World – Mid Michigan

My picture is what I saw this morning at 4:30 as I looked out my window.  We did receive a little over 2 inches of heavy, wet snow which was hard shoveling.  I had to do it so my fur baby would go out and do her business.   Sometimes we’re slaves to our pets.  The snow was ended by the time I got up and temperatures warmed up enough that about half of it melted already.  The next few days…

A Sunny Day After Christmas For Mid Michigan

A Sunny Day After Christmas For Mid Michigan

Our Christmas Day was actually very nice.  Temps were quite warm, light breezes, and no rain which was predicted.  We had great weather for cooking out and light jackets were adequate.  Today looks beautiful out the window, but a heavy coat is needed if one is going to be outdoors for any length of time.  There isn’t much wind so it’s quite pleasant.  I love this weather.  I could live with this all winter long. Our 1:45 PM temperature is…

Christmas Eve Day In Mid Michigan

Christmas Eve Day In Mid Michigan

We aren’t going to have any snow for Christmas but I don’t really mind.  I haven’t really been in the Christmas spirit this year.  Maybe my surgery had something to do with it.  My knee is doing fine but still giving me some pain.  I guess I have to expect that.  Yesterday brought a brief snow shower which barely covered the bare spots on the lawn, but now we are back to melting mode again.  The forecast for tomorrow has…

Cloudy With Snow Flurries – Mid Michigan

Cloudy With Snow Flurries – Mid Michigan

Where we have snow, there is about half an inch.  But an earlier snow shower gave partial covering to the bare areas and not sure if we’ll get anymore.  There is a line of snow just to our north which seems to be moving away from us.  With temperatures what they are, there isn’t much melting.  Christmas day was supposed to be quite nice.  Now they are predicting rain.  That  isn’t what we wanted to hear since we are cooking…

It Really Feels Like Winter In Mid Michigan

It Really Feels Like Winter In Mid Michigan

It is very chilly out there this morning . Our 10:15 AM temp is only 22°F (-6°C) and winds are out of the west northwest at 8 to 13 miles per hour. Highs today are only expected to reach the upper 20s. Our snow cover is down to about 60%.  I see a few snow flurries falling but nothing extreme is expected anytime soon.  In fact, Christmas Day is predicted to be around 40°F (4°C).  Christmas Eve Day, however, is…

Cloudy But Bright In Mid Michigan

Cloudy But Bright In Mid Michigan

We had intermittent snow showers most of our Saturday, and we received about another inch of new snow.  We now have 2 inches of snow cover.  It’s amazing how much it brightens up the inside of the house.  On dreary, snow-less days, we need lights on almost all day.  The forecast called for a little sun today, but so far, it hasn’t happened.  Our temperature has dropped a few degrees since this morning and I’m having my doubts that our…
