A Nice Weekend After The Last Snow – Mid Michigan

A Nice Weekend After The Last Snow – Mid Michigan

Our weekend was quite nice after our 3.5″ snowfall on Thursday.  Temperatures warmed up enough that most of it melted within three days.  In fact, our ground cover right now is only about 50%.  With mild temperatures expected over the next few days, it should not last long.  Today has been pleasant with some sun and warmer temps.  There hasn’t been any precipitation since Thursday and none is expected until possibly tomorrow.  Even that isn’t expected to be much and…

More Snow For Mid Michigan

More Snow For Mid Michigan

We received another 3.5 inches of snow overnight, and light snow flurries have continued most of the morning.  Temperatures are a little warmer than yesterday, and where we shoveled on our deck, has melted in spite of the cold temperatures.   We had a little sun earlier, but now clouds have moved in once again with a few more flurries.  Most of us are hoping that this is the last of the snow for this season but I doubt that it…

Not A Bad Day In Mid Michigan

Not A Bad Day In Mid Michigan

Although it is cold, it isn’t totally unpleasant outdoors today.  Yes, the breeze is rather light but still makes the temperature even colder than what it is.  We even have the sun peeking through once in a while.  Snow is in our forecast tonight and into early tomorrow morning, but it isn’t expected to be much.  Today is my son’s birthday and he and my daughter will be coming tomorrow for the weekend.  I just hope that the roads are…

Melting Snow, Added Rain Totals = Flood Warnings – Mid Michigan

Melting Snow, Added Rain Totals = Flood Warnings – Mid Michigan

After two very mild days, and a few heavy downpours, we now have a flooding problem in my area.  The Shiawassee River is near flood stage, and recent ice jams on the river in Owosso has caused a lot of grief.  Not only is there high water, but big hunks of ice coming ashore causing property damage.  Sometimes it doesn’t pay to have waterfront property. Our 12:15 PM temp is 23°F, the humidity is 67%, and winds are from the…

Mild And Rainy In Mid Michigan

Mild And Rainy In Mid Michigan

It has been raining since I got up this morning.  Some showers have been quite heavy.  There was 0.18″ in my gauge at 8:45 and the rain had stopped by then.  Now we are having intermittent showers and fog.  Most of our snow is gone except for where the snow piles are, and I expect most of them will be gone by tonight.  We are expecting our temperatures to climb to near 50°F today.  Unfortunately, we have another cold spell…

Partly Cloudy And Mild For Our Monday – Mid Michigan

Partly Cloudy And Mild For Our Monday – Mid Michigan

Today is quite pleasant after the past two.  There is a breeze but not hurricane winds like we have had, or at least it seemed like it.  We have a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures are comfortable for this time of year.  We lost about 75% of our snow cover yesterday and it’s still melting away today.  We have rain in our forecast for the next few days, and some areas are expecting freezing rain.  So far, I…

Blustery But Sunny Today In Mid Michigan

Blustery But Sunny Today In Mid Michigan

Looking out the window, it appears to be a very nice day.  But when the wind hits you, it doesn’t feel so nice.  At least we have sun and that lifts the spirits a bit.  Temperatures should be mild for a few days so we should see much of the snow gone by mid week.  Unfortunately, there is another storm system heading our way and it sounds like that could bring more ice.  We’ll just have to wait and see….

A Blustery, Cold Day In Mid Michigan

A Blustery, Cold Day In Mid Michigan

Yesterday was very windy which made it hard to get an accurate snow measurement this morning.  I’m guessing that we got about 0.2″ of new snow but we have snow drifts that are about a foot deep, while other areas are bare.  Today continues to be very windy with the sun peeking in and out of the clouds.  It sure doesn’t do much to warm it up, however.  We have about 4-5 inches of snow cover at this time and…

Some Sun After The Snow – Mid Michigan

Some Sun After The Snow – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was cloudy but warm enough to rid us of most of our snow and ice.  Then in the late afternoon, our precip began as freezing mist which changed over to fine snow shortly after.  As the night wore on, the snowflakes got bigger and it started to pile up quickly.  It was over by 11:30 PM after dropping about 4.5 inches of snow.  This morning is sunny but very cold.  Forecasts are showing a significant warm-up this weekend and…

Heavy Rain, Warm Temps In Mid Michigan

Heavy Rain, Warm Temps In Mid Michigan

My picture pretty much tells what we can expect today.  We had heavy rain most of the night and there was 0.82″ in my gauge.  My county (Shiawassee) is in the advisory area and we are expecting 3-6 inches of snow by tonight.  Our snow cover this morning is down to about 30% and temperatures are expected to drop creating ice on all surfaces that are wet.  At least we aren’t expecting up to 9 inches which was first predicted…
