Some Sun For Our Afternoon – Mid Michigan

Some Sun For Our Afternoon – Mid Michigan

We had freezing rain yesterday morning which turned to all rain by the afternoon.  Our temperature now has reached the 40s , and all the ice on the trees gone.  We started the day with clouds, but it has cleared up this afternoon, and the sun is a welcome sight.  We are starting to see patches of grass showing through the ice cover, and the yard no longer feels crunchy to walk on.  Unfortunately, there is more winter mix on…

Freezing Rain For Our Monday Morning – Mid Michigan

Freezing Rain For Our Monday Morning – Mid Michigan

We have freezing rain at the present time, and it is supposed to change to all rain as the day goes on.  Ice is building up rapidly on my trees and I hope that it warms up soon and stops freezing.  Highs today are supposed to reach the mid 30s by this afternoon.  We still have about 1-2 inches of ice on the ground from the last storm.  Hey Mother Nature! Send us a few 50 degree days. Our 2:15…

A Beautiful Sunday In Mid Michigan

A Beautiful Sunday In Mid Michigan

Our temperatures made it into the low 40s and it feels a bit balmy today.  We haven’t had any clouds and winds have been light.  For a day in late February, it’s been very nice.  Our ground is still white, but it isn’t snow . . . . . it’s ice, and not melting very fast.   I estimate that it measures about 1-2 inches but am unable to get a accurate measurement.  I’ll be glad when it warms up enough…

A Little Snow to Start Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

A Little Snow to Start Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Our ground cover is about 2 inches of frozen whatever, and very little of it is snow.  We did have a slight snow shower early this morning which left an additional half inch to the mix.  It has now stopped and our forecast is calling for clearing later on.  Our skies cleared late yesterday afternoon and we saw quite a bit of sun.  It helped clear some of the ice on our deck, but it didn’t get warm enough to…

Michigan Recovering From Ice Storm

Michigan Recovering From Ice Storm

There are many who are still without power, and reinforcements are coming in from neighboring states to help with repairs .  Local power companies estimate that most power should be restored by Sunday night.  Our ground cover is white, but not with snow.  It is all ice, mainly sleet, two inches of it.  There won’t be any melting today since temps aren’t expected to rise above freezing.  Right now, the sun is surprising us with a visit, but I don’t…

Southern Michigan Is A Mess This Morning

Southern Michigan Is A Mess This Morning

Looking at the power outage maps this morning, I feel very fortunate.  My picture is from my son who lives near Detroit.  So many without power this morning, but we aren’t one of them.  Our lights blinked off for about 10 seconds, but then came back on.  I feel blessed.  Yes, we have two generators but they only power half the house and that’s better than nothing.  Our ground is covered with 1.5″ of frozen slush.  We had mostly sleet…

Winter Storm Warning For Most Of Michigan

Winter Storm Warning For Most Of Michigan

So far, we only have a light covering of snow, and there is nothing happening at this time.  My area is right on the line between snow and ice, so we aren’t certain yet what to expect.  Our generators are ready to go just in case, and the latest forecast doesn’t sound good.  Regardless, we aren’t planning to go anywhere today as the local weather gurus are warning that travel late today will be impossible.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t look  now…

Nasty Weather Ahead For Mid Michigan

Nasty Weather Ahead For Mid Michigan

Currently, we are under a winter storm  watch with some discrepancies as to what we can expect.  My YouTube weather guy, Ryan Hall, is warning that we could get a major ice storm with up to 0.5″ of ice.  NOAA is saying only 0.1 to 0.2″ of ice, with 1-2 inches of snow.  Weather Underground is saying that it will be mostly snow for us with 5-8 inches possible.  It’s going to be interesting to see who is right.  I’m…

Quiet Before The Storm – Mid Michigan

Quiet Before The Storm – Mid Michigan

We lost the rest of the snow and ice from last week’s storm, but now we have another expected to arrive on Wednesday.  It sound pretty much like the last one.  It’s supposed to start with snow, then change to sleet and freezing rain after that.  I’m glad that I don’t have to go anywhere on Thursday, because I don’t imagine that the roads will be very good.  Today shouldn’t be too bad although I think our sun is done…

Temps Remain Much Above Average – Mid Michigan

Temps Remain Much Above Average – Mid Michigan

The highs yesterday made it into the mid 40s and we lost a lot of snow and ice.  This morning began with sun but now it has become mostly cloudy.  We could see a high near 50°F this afternoon.  Our snow cover has dwindled to about  30% and I expect that to be gone by tonight.  Unfortunately, we have another ice/snow/sleet storm coming our way for Wednesday.  This, so far, sounds like it will be more ice than snow, so…
