I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
More Rain On The Way . . . . .

More Rain On The Way . . . . .

So far today, we have received quarter of an inch of rain, and we’re being warned that more is on the way.  It has ranged from steady to moderate most of the morning, but it isn’t raining right now.  Radar is showing a break for a while with more coming later.  We really don’t need anymore and could easily go a week without. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 59°F, the humidity is 90%, and skies are overcast.  Winds are from…

A Short Reprieve From The Rain . . . .

A Short Reprieve From The Rain . . . .

After more rain over the past several days, we have much welcomed sun this morning.  Temperatures will be about normal which I love this time of year.  There is still no color but some trees are trying to change.  This is one of the greenest Septembers I can ever remember. Our 10 AM temperature is 60°F, the humidity is 88%, and skies are clear.  Winds are NE at 2-5 mph and the pressure is 30.20 in and falling.  The dew…

Another Rainy Day . . . .

Another Rainy Day . . . .

Our morning started with intermittent showers and radar is showing more on the way.  This is expected to last most of our day, so it looks like we’ll be mowing the lawn in the next few days again.  I wish this rain would go where it is needed. Our 10:45 AM temperature is 59°F, the humidity is 92%, and skies are overcast with light rain.  Winds are  from the south at 0-4 mph, and the pressure is 30.02 in and…

Pleasantly Cool . . . .

It’s the middle of September and I’m seeing no color in the trees or bushes.  That’s very unusual for this late in September.  Usually we start seeing some of the leaves changing in late August.  This year it still looks like June.  It’ll be interesting to see what winter brings this year. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 65°F, the humidity 47%, and skies are clear.  Winds are NNW at 2-4 mph, and the pressure is 30.19 in and falling.  The…

Plenty Of Sun, Perfect Temperatures . . . .

Today will be perfect by my standards.  There is no rain in the forecast with just a slight chance tomorrow, and temperatures will only rise into the upper 70s today.  This is why I love autumn in Michigan.  It’s my favorite season. Our 11 AM temperature is 68°F, the humidity is 75%, and winds are from the east at 0-2 mph.  The pressure is 29.99 in and steady.  The dew point is 56°F and visibility is 10 miles.  Yesterday’s high…

Finally Cooling Down . . . .

Finally Cooling Down . . . .

The state is recovering from severe weather on Thursday.  Many are still without power, and the Detroit area is cleaning up from two tornadoes and 70 mph straight line winds.  The straight line winds did as much damage as the tornadoes.  Today is feeling much more comfortable after high humidity and dew points from earlier in the week.  We’re hoping that the hot weather is over for the season. Our 1:15 PM temperature is 74°F, the humidity is 59%, and…

Severe Weather, Much Damage, Power Outages . . . .

Severe Weather, Much Damage, Power Outages . . . .

Wednesday and Thursday brought severe weather to our state, but yesterday was worse.  Southern Michigan really got slammed especially the Detroit area.  My area had a lot of rain but nothing really severe.  There is still a slight chance for more today, although radar isn’t showing much, and what there is seems to be sliding to our south.  We received just under two inches of rain the past two days, and I think we have enough for a while. Our…
