I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Clear And Sunny . . . . .

Clear And Sunny . . . . .

With our winds switching to the southeast today, the smoke doesn’t seem nearly as bad.  The sky actually looks blue for a change.  We had a few sprinkles of rain yesterday, and we could see some thunderstorms this afternoon, but most will be the hit-and-miss variety.  I hope we are in the miss area.  We don’t need any more rain for awhile. Our 12:30 PM temperature is 82°F, the humidity is 67%, and winds are from the ESE at 0-3…

Still Dealing With Smoke . . . . .

Still Dealing With Smoke . . . . .

There has been no letup in the smoke coming down from Canada.  Between that and all of this hot weather, summer of 2025 has not been pleasant.  I think that the smoke is worse today than the past two days.  There is no rain in our forecast and that will give us a reprieve from lawn mowing.  So guess we’ll deal with what we have. Our 2 PM temperature is 81°F, the humidity is 62% and skies are grey from…

Another Smokey Day . . . .

Another Smokey Day . . . .

Once again we are advised not to spend much time outdoors due to the wildfire smoke from Canada.  I checked out a map yesterday, showing all current wildfires, and it looks like half of Manitoba is on fire.  My picture shows the Mackinaw Bridge yesterday through the smoke.  As for us, it is still quite hazy and our clear sky looks more grey than blue.   We have another round of hot, sticky weather for the week ahead, so this makes…

Another Air Quality Alert Day . . . . .

Another Air Quality Alert Day . . . . .

We have clear skies but they are grey because of the smoke.  No one in my family has any severe respiratory problems but still not good to breathe the smoke.  Now that we have cooler temperatures, it would be nice to spend some time outdoors but who knows when that will happen.  I can’t believe that it is August already.  It hasn’t been a very good summer as far as weather goes.  I hope that autumn is better Our 2:15…

Another Smokey Day . . . .

Another Smokey Day . . . .

After an almost clear day on Friday, today we have the wildfire smoke once again.  The sun is shining but the sky is grey.  Winds are light and the humidity is quite comfortable.  There is no rain in the forecast and an air quality alert is in effect once again.  Most of the smoke is in the sky at this time but is expected to increase here at ground level as the day goes on. Our 12:30 PM temperature is…

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds . . . .

A Mix Of Sun And Clouds . . . .

Today is a fine day with not as much smoke, and nice, cool temperatures.  The Air Quality Index is moderate at 69.  That’s a big improvement from the past few days.  Temps will remain in the 70s today and I’m loving it.  I wish it wold stay this way the rest of the summer  Unfortunately, there is more heat heading this way for next weekend. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 75°F, the humidity is 48%.  Skies are partly cloudy.  Winds…

Another Air Quality Alert Day. . . . . .

Once again, we are affected by the Canadian wildfires, and we have a lot of smoke in the air.  The sky is a mix of clouds and smoke and it’s hard to distinguish between the two.  Yesterday was bad also, but then the rains came and cleared the air a little.  Rain began in the late afternoon, and continued most of the night.  We got 0.29 in.  Detroit has been plagued by flooding and they received another 1-2 inches yesterday. …

This Heat Is Coming To An End . . . .

This Heat Is Coming To An End . . . .

We have one more day of this unrelenting heat, then we’ll have a period of below average temps for a chance.  I’ll be loving it.  This summer has been too hot and wet to even enjoy being outdoors.  The mosquitoes are terrible and I can’t wait for this cooler weather to arrive.  I’m hoping that these 90s are done for the year. Our 1PM temperature is 90°F, the humidity is 60% and the pressure is 29.98 in and falling,.  The…

Fog To Start The Day . . .

Fog To Start The Day . . .

Our Saturday was cloudy and hot.  It looked like rain most of the day but all we got as a few sprinkles early.  Today began with dense fog, but now the sky is clear.  I’m not seeing any rain in the forecast for this week at all, but we know how that can change.  We need a prolonged dry spell. Our 12:15 PM temperature is 84°F, the humidity is 66% and winds are from the SW at 2-4 mph.  The…

Chance Of Storms Exist . . . .

Yesterday brought very hot temperatures and scattered storms and all totally missed us.  We did get a quick passing shower which dropped 0.09″ of rain in the late afternoon.  Today is a little cooler but still very humid.  We should get some relief from the heat tomorrow Our 2:45 PM temperature is 82°F, the humidity is 73%, and skies are mostly cloudy.  Winds are from the north at 0-3 mph, and the pressure is 30.00 in and rising.  The dew…
