I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Starting To Warm Up . .

Starting To Warm Up . .

After a few days of very frigid weather, we can now look forward to another brief warmup.  We could see temps near 50F on Monday, and it will be welcome.  We still have about 2 inches of snow on the ground and that should be gone by Monday night.  But then another round of cold air will follow, but there isn’t any snow expected with it.  At least not at this time. Our 11 AM temperature is 31°F, the humidity…

Two Inches of Snow Cover With Strong Wind . . . . .

Two Inches of Snow Cover With Strong Wind . . . . .

Snow showers began late yesterday and continued overnight.  We now have about two inches of new snow.  It isn’t expected to last long as temperatures rise into the 40s this weekend and early next week.  Today is blustery and very cold, so I won’t be going outdoors much.  I’m glad that I don’t have to go anywhere. Our 12 Noon temperature is 28°F, the humidity is 76%, and skies are cloudy.  Winds are from the west at 15-23 mph, giving…

Very Cold And Windy . . .

Very Cold And Windy . . .

Wind is the big issue today, and with these very cold temperatures, it feels like a day in mid January.  Thankfully, the forecast is calling for a significant warm-up next week.  Lake effect snow showers continue to plague the west and north sides of the state, but I’m sure that the ski resorts are loving it.  Most have had a hard time the past several years with snow being sparse.  My area gets very little lake effect;  just an occasional…

Most Snow Is Gone . . . .

Most Snow Is Gone . . . .

We had about half an inch of snow this morning, now most is gone.  Much of the western side of the state is buried  with up to 4 feet in some areas.  I was watching the storm chasers on YouTube yesterday, and they were out helping people get unstuck and taking food to police and emergency personnel.  It reminded me of the Weather Channel program, Highway Through Hell.  I-94 was definitely not the place to be.  We didn’t get anything…

Sunny And A Little Warmer . . . .

Sunny And A Little Warmer . . . .

Yesterday turned out to be partly sunny and not too bad of a day.  We had a few flurries in the morning but then a mix of sun and clouds later in the day.  Much of the snow melted where the sun hit, and we have maybe half an inch left.  I expect that to be gone by tonight. Our 9:15 AM temp is 28°F (-2°C), the humidity is 85%, and  winds are from the west at 4-8 mph.  The…

A Little Sun For Our Sunday . . . .

A Little Sun For Our Sunday . . . .

After two days of almost constant snow showers, we finally have a break in the clouds today and some sun.  There was 1.5 inches of snow cover, and now much of it is gone.  Although temperatures aren’t expected to rise above freezing, the sun is making up for that. Our 1:30 PM temperature is 31°F, the humidity is 76%, and skies are partly cloudy.  Winds are from the W at 6-13 mph, and the pressure is 30.05 in and steady. …

More Snow . . . .

More Snow . . . .

We had intermittent snow showers all day Friday, and we now have about an inch of snow cover.  This morning has had off and on snow showers and temperatures are very chilly.  Yes, it looks and feels like winter today.  There is no warmup expected anytime soon.  I guess it’s time to put the bird seed feeder out. Our 12:30 PM temperature is 27°F, the humidity is 78%, and winds are from the west at 5-14 mph.  Skies are overcast…

First Snow Cover Of The Season . . .

First Snow Cover Of The Season . . .

Well, it finally happened . . . . we have a white world this morning.  It began as graupel last night, then changed to snow before dawn.  I have to admit that I welcome the brightness that it brings.  We don’t even need any lights on.  We only have about half an inch.  With our high today only near the freezing mark, I don’t expect this to melt right away, and snow is in our forecast for most of this…

Thanksgiving Eve . . . .

Thanksgiving Eve . . . .

Today’s weather should be calm but chilly.  We could see some snow flurries or a few rain drops, but don’t think we’ll see any sun today.  It will be a typical November day here in Michigan.
