I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Another Fine Summer Day . . . .

Today will be a winner, but strong storms could be our fate for tomorrow.  So far we aren’t included in the projected severe area, but that could change.  We’ll have to see how that develops. Our 11:45 AM temperature is 83°F, the humidity is 68%, and winds are from the S at 1-5 mph.  Skies are partly cloudy, and the pressure is 29.98 in and steady.  The dew point is 67°F and visibility is 11 miles.  Yesterday’s high was 84°F,…

A Nice Morning . . . .

A Nice Morning . . . .

Our morning has had a mix of clouds and sun, and it has now become mostly sunny.  Highs should reach the low 80s and there is the possibility that we could see some rain.  Other than that, there isn’t much more that can be said. Our 12:15 PM temperature is 79°F (26°C), the humidity is 66%, and skies are partly cloudy.  Winds are from the WNW at 2-6 mph.  The pressure is 29.97 in (1014.9 mb) and steady, and the…

Beautiful Weather Post Beryl . . . .

After rain all day Wednesday and 2.44″ inches of rain, today is sunny and very pleasant.  I’m already hearing that we have the possibility is seeing severe weather this weekend, but only very slight.  That seems to be when we get it.  So enjoy today while it lasts. Our 5:15 PM temperature is 79°F (26°C), the humidity is 63%, and skies are partly cloudy.  Winds are from the ESE at 2-5 mph, and the pressure is 29.92 in (1913.2 mb)…

Beryl Leaving Us Very Wet . . . .

Beryl Leaving Us Very Wet . . . .

Post Tropical Storm Beryl left her calling card last night and early today.  The rain has finally stopped and radar is showing most of it past us.  There was 2.52″ in my rain gauge at 8:30 this morning, and we received another 0.43″ since then.  Temperatures have cooled off remarkably and it feels good.  It won’t last, however, with highs back into the upper 80s again next week.  We are under a flood watch until 8 PM tonight, but we…

Beryl Is On The Way . . .

Beryl Is On The Way . . .

My knees are hurting, so Beryl must be on the way.  I’m surprised that the barometer isn’t lower than it is.  Winds aren’t supposed to be an issue, but we are expecting large amounts of rain.  A flood watch is in effect.  As for today, we can expect showers and thunderstorms with rain developing tonight.  Temperatures will still be very warm, but cooler than yesterday.  Right now we have hazy sun and a thin cloud cover.  It’s actually quite nice….

Effects Of Hurricane Beryl . . . .

Effects Of Hurricane Beryl . . . .

The Gulf coast of Texas is bracing for what could be a significant hurricane.  Storm surge is expected to be massive, as well as a widespread tornadic event.  As for us, we could see the effects on Wednesday, with thunderstorms and heavy rain amounts which could cause flooding.  At this time, it appears that Beryl will be moving right over us, and of course, this could change.  A more accurate prediction will be available tomorrow. Our 10:15 AM temperature is…

A Perfect Summer Day . . . .

A Perfect Summer Day . . . .

Today couldn’t be nicer.  Temperatures are warm, but not too hot.  There is a light breeze and it isn’t too humid.  Unfortunately, we have hurricane Beryl to look forward to.  Of course it won’t be as bad as what Texas is expecting, but we could see a very large rain event from it.  Local meteorologists are predicting 2-3 inches in parts of the state.  This is expected on Wednesday and into Thursday and it won’t be pleasant for anyone on…

All The Storms Missed Us . . . .

All The Storms Missed Us . . . .

Mid Michigan was pounded by severe storms yesterday afternoon.  There was even on unconfirmed tornado, somewhere in the thumb area.  Other than that, there was wind damage reported  in Clare county.  All we got was a few claps of thunder and some sprinkles.  Today is cloudy and cooler temperatures.  I think we may be able to leave the AC off for a change.  Rain remains in our forecast for later this afternoon. Our 11 AM temperature is 69°F (21°C), the…

More Rain On The Way . . . . .

More Rain On The Way . . . . .

Our holiday was quite nice.  We did have a few sprinkles but not enough to measure.  Skies were cloudy most of the day so highs never reached the expected high temperature.  This morning is sunny and skies are mostly clear, but thunderstorms are expected this afternoon. Our 9:30 AM temperature is 73°F, the humidity is 80%, and winds are from the NW at 1-3 mph.  The pressure is 29.84 in and steady.  Skies are mostly clear and visibility is 10…

Happy 4TH Of July . . . .

Happy 4TH Of July . . . .

Our holiday is starting out with cloudy skies and very warm temperatures.  The sun looks like it is trying to push it’s way through the clouds, but not doing a very good job.  We do have a slight chance for rain later, but all the rain is to our south at this time.  We could see highs reaching close to  90 degrees this afternoon, and that should make some people happy. Our 12 noon temperature is 81°F (22°C), the humidity…
