I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Wind And Rain . . . . .

Wind And Rain . . . . .

Today is not nice, but we have some really nice weather on the way.  The biggest issue today is the wind.  We have gusts up to 40 mph and many here in our state are without power.  We’ve been lucky so far.  Winds should die down tonight, then the sun will return tomorrow.  This upcoming week should bring temperatures in the 70s, and with them may come thunderstorms.  In fact, one of the YouTube weather forecasters is warning that there…

Wet And Dreary . . . . .

Wet And Dreary . . . . .

Radar is showing that our day will continue the way it is now.  We have had light rain since this morning and there was 0.25″ in my rain gauge at 8:30.  Tomorrow is expected to even be worse with high wind gusts along with the rain.  The weekend isn’t looking too bad but Saturday will be the pick day.  Next week is expected to bring us temps in the 70s. I love it! Our 1:30 PM temperature is 51°F (11°C),…

A Little Sun Before The Rain . . . .

A Little Sun Before The Rain . . . .

Our day is beginning with mild temperatures and mostly clear skies.  Yesterday was a winner with highs reaching the mid 70s and plenty of sun.  It was much too windy, however, to really be enjoyable.  Dixie alley is again being plagued with rough weather and I hope the damage is minimal.  As for us, we’re expecting heavy rain over the next few days starting tonight.  The next dry day is expected to be Saturday. Our 11:45 AM temperature is 61F,…

A Very Pleasant April Day . ..

A Very Pleasant April Day . ..

Our morning began with clear skies and mild temperatures.  Yesterday remained clear all day with some high clouds occasionally.  Everyone enjoyed the eclipse and it was the prime story of the day.  I envied those who saw it in it’s totality; I heard that there were backups on the roads heading to SE Michigan where it could be viewed.  So that part I didn’t miss. Our 1:15 PM temperature is 71°F (22°C), the humidity is 36%, and skies are mostly…

Long Anticipated Eclipse Now History . . . .

Long Anticipated Eclipse Now History . . . .

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in the eclipse.  It didn’t get nearly as dark as I thought it would.  We were supposed to have 96% coverage here, and I don’t think it was that much.  Regardless, today turned out to be a beautiful day with clear skies and very warm temperatures.  So I won’t complain. Our 4 PM temperature is 69°F, the humidity is 36%, and skies are clear.  Winds are from the south at…

A Beautiful Day Before The Rain . . . .

A Beautiful Day Before The Rain . . . .

We have rain in the forecast for tonight, but it is expected to end in the morning.  They are saying that we should get a good view of the eclipse.  My area is expecting 96% view, but Detroit is expecting 98%.  I just hope that all the clouds are gone by the time it starts.  Today is quite warm but the wind makes it much cooler.  At least it’s bright and sunny. Our 2 PM temperature is 58°F (14°C), the…

A Normal April Day . . . .

A Normal April Day . . . .

Starting today, our weather will become more seasonal.  Temperatures are where they should be and we have plenty of sun for our weekend.  Monday is the eclipse and it is still questionable how much we will be able to see.  Totality is a two hour drive from us, and I don’t want to drive it and then have clouds.  So I guess we’ll stay here and hope for the best.  Our view should be about 96% if we can see…

A Sunny Start But Now Overcast . . .

A Sunny Start But Now Overcast . . .

Our morning was sunny and bright, but now it is cloudy and gloomy.    Yesterday was rainy, mostly light sprinkles and mist, but it left 0.02″ in my gauge.  There is a chance for rain today but none has happened so far.  Highs will still be below average but a significant warmup is expected next week. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 45°F (7°C), the humidity is 50%, and winds are from the NW at 7-17 mph.  The dew point is 24°F…

A Drizzly, Cold Day . . . . . .

A Drizzly, Cold Day . . . . . .

It is really quite a nasty day.  The dampness goes right through you when outdoors.  Thankfully it isn’t windy.  Yesterday, we had sprinkles on and off, and even a little graupel.  There was only 0.02″ in my gauge at 8:30, and we have had misty conditions most of the morning so far.  I’m seeing a few breaks in the clouds but not enough to let the sun shine through.  This weather feels more like early March than April.  We’re making…

Another Damp And Gloomy Day . . . . .

Another Damp And Gloomy Day . . . . .

We received another 0.19″ of rain since yesterday morning, and we could get more today.  All the severe weather yesterday stayed well to our south and east, and my prayers go out for those who lost their homes.  This has been projected to be a stormy spring season for the country, and so far, Michigan has been lucky.  We should start seeing the sun on Friday, and into next week.  Monday is not looking too good for the eclipse.  My…
