The Past Few Days Eased The Drought – Mid Michigan

We have been under drought conditions over the past month, and the past few days have put a dent in it.  Rain amounts on Thursday, Friday, and yesterday have totaled just under an inch in my  area and it was badly needed.  In fact, the drought has really affected our fall colors as we hardly have any color at all.  Leaves are drying up on the trees and falling.  What color we do have is dingy and dull.  I don’t know if this rain came soon enough to change that.  So basically we have traded our fall color for summer-like temperatures this year.  I have never seen that happen before.  This has surely been a strange year for weather.

A line of heavy thunderstorms passed over the state last night dumping anywhere from half an inch to over an inch in most places.  It happened during the Michigan State – University of Michigan football game, and although they really got dumped on, there was no lightning in Ann Arbor to stop the game.  The Big House was packed since this is a major rivalry in our state, and fortunately, the right team (Michigan State) won.  There was quite a bit of wind damage in the thumb area and even a tornado warning was issued for Livingston County, but no tornadoes to my knowledge.  There are also many power outages reported throughout the state.

Our 9 AM temperature is 60°F (16°C), the humidity is 82%, and winds are from the SW at 7 mph.  Skies are clear and the dew point is 56°F (13°C).  Yesterday’s high was 82°F (28°C) and the overnight low was 64°F (18°C).  The pressure is 29.84 in (1010.2 mb) and steady.  The record high for Oct. 7 is 87°F (31°C) set in 2007, and the record low is 23°F (-5°C) set in 1964.  Average temps for this date are 64°F / 42°F.
