Northern Michigan Storms

Northern Michigan Storms

Thunderstorms began early in Cheboygan and continued as we headed for Traverse City.  The storm we drove through near Elmira, was a real gully washer, but by the time we reached TC, most of the rain was over.  Skies cleared through the afternoon but severe storms pummeled our home turf.  They were under a severe thunderstorm warning and the radar looked serious.  I haven’t been in touch with anyone at home for damage reports.  We will be heading home…

More Smoke In The Air On This Sunday

More Smoke In The Air On This Sunday

We are once again under an air quality alert from the Canadian wildfires.  We’ll be heading up to Cheboygan and Traverse City for the next week.  We haven’t been there since we sold our trailer and parted ways with the campground.  I hope that there will be no smoke up there.  Today is a bit windy and there is a slight chance for some thunderstorms, but I’m really not expecting to see any rain today.  Temperatures will be close to…

Overnight Thunderstorms For Our Saturday

Overnight Thunderstorms For Our Saturday

We had a rare, loud thunderstorm about 2:30 this morning.  It seemed good and we picked up another 0.4″ of rain.  I just received a weather alert that air quality will not be good tomorrow.  Seems that the Canadian smoke will make another pass over our area.  I wish Canada would get the rain that is flooding Vermont, and put those darn fires out.  I’m sure the people of Canada wish the same.  Today shouldn’t be too bad of a…

Flooding Rain In Mid Michigan

Flooding Rain In Mid Michigan

Yesterday was one of the stormiest days that we have had in a long time.  The rain began in the afternoon and was light from the beginning;  later, when the storms, which produced tornadoes in Chicago reached us, the sky really opened up.  The heavy rain began around 9 PM and didn’t stop until after 11:30 PM.  There was 3.08″ in my rain gauge this morning, and many other areas not too far from me, recorded over 4″.  That’s the…

Storms In Our Forecast – Mid Michigan

Storms In Our Forecast – Mid Michigan

Yesterday brought us no rain, but there were isolated storm cells that formed over parts of the state.  Several severe storm warnings were issued as well as one tornado warning.  None, however, happened in my area.  We are being told to expect much of the same this afternoon.  It was hot and muggy yesterday and it should be a bit cooler today.  Hopefully no severe weather for us but we could sure use the rain. Our 10:30 AM temperature is…

Storms Possible Today – Mid Michigan

Storms Possible Today – Mid Michigan

I’m seeing storms popping up on radar, but none heading our way as yet.  They are all to our north and east.  Hopefully, we’ll get some rain this afternoon.  It is quite breezy and it feels like a storm could spring up.  It won’t be quite as hot as yesterday and the wind will keep it comfortable.  Not a bad day at all. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 86°F (30°C), the humidity is 50%, and skies are mostly…

A Real Summer-Like Day In Mid Michigan

A Real Summer-Like Day In Mid Michigan

After a comfortable Sunday, our temperatures are once again too hot.  We could see a high of 90F this afternoon, and it already feels like an oven.  Our weather this year has been crazy with up-and-down temperatures, air quality alerts, and sporadic storms on occasion that miss us most of the time.  Regardless, today will be okay if you like excessive heat.  I don’t. Our 2 PM temperature is 84°F (29°C),  the humidity is 41%, and winds are from the…

Perfect Weather For Our Sunday – Mid Michigan

After a fairly wet Saturday, today has turned into a winner.  Highs are only expected to reach the mid to upper 70s, and the humidity is comfortable.  Skies are mostly clear and breezes are light.  It always seems good to have the windows open and air out the house. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 77°F (25°C), the humidity is 55%, and winds are from the NNE at 2-6 mph and visibility is 14 miles.  The dew point is 53°F (12°C)…

A Little Rain To Start Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

A Little Rain To Start Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

We have been getting light rain since I got up this morning and it will probably continue most of the day.  Temperatures probably won’t rise out of the 70s although most of our day will probably be wet.  Yesterday was gorgeous.  Our high only reached 80°F (27°C) and there was just enough breeze to be comfortable.  It was a great day to spend outdoors. Our 11 AM temperature is 70°F (21°C), the humidity is 86%, and skies are overcast with…

Our Hottest Day Of The Season – Mid Michigan

Our Hottest Day Of The Season – Mid Michigan

We are expecting highs today in the low 90s with the possibility of a thunderstorm developing.  We sure could use the rain and it would also help with the heat.  I’m not fond of weather this hot, so I’m happy that it isn’t supposed to last long.  Temps should be closer to normal after today.  Yesterday was pleasant but too warm to spend much of it outdoors.   The next few days will be better. Our 1PM temperature is 90°F (32°C),…
