I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
A Sunny Day Before The Storms – Mid Michigan

A Sunny Day Before The Storms – Mid Michigan

Tomorrow is expected to be another stormy day with large areas of the midwest and south expecting more tornadoes and strong severe storms.  As for us, we could see showers and maybe a few thunderstorms, but at this time, nothing severe is expected.  Strong winds will be on tap for us over the next few days.  Warmer weather is on the way, but with that comes stormy weather.  There seems to be no end to this “atmospheric river” coming east…

Snow Showers For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

Snow Showers For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

We are having snow showers this morning which are barely covering the ground.  I’m sure that it will melt very quickly and we aren’t expecting much accumulation.  We have another storm system heading our way for the weekend as usual.  Once again, the same southern states will be the bullseye for the worst of it.  There is a very slight chance that Michigan could see severe storms, but it appears that most will remain to our south.  Winds today will…

A Sunny Day For Mid Michigan

A Sunny Day For Mid Michigan

After a gloomy, blustery weekend, our new week is beginning with sunshine and mild temperatures.  I think I’ll bring some outdoor furniture out on the deck today, since the weather looks pretty good over the next several days.  It’s nice to sit outdoors even it the temps are a bit chilly.  We received quite a bit of rain this past weekend and I’m noticing the grass greening up a little.  We need a good thunderstorm to really wake things up,…

A Calm Sunday For Mid Michigan

A Calm Sunday For Mid Michigan

Our morning began with clear skies, but now more clouds are rolling in.  It turned out to be a pretty nice day with light winds and temperatures in the 50s.  There is rain and snow in our forecast for tonight and tomorrow, so guess we just aren’t ahead enough in the calendar yet to be rid of that “S” word.  On the positive side, these teaser days will happen more often, and soon we’ll be complaining that it’s too hot. …

Rainy Changing To Snow Later – Mid Michigan

Rainy Changing To Snow Later – Mid Michigan

My condolences to the people of Mississippi who were victimized last night by devastating tornadoes.  I follow a couple of storm chasers on YouTube, and they were busy giving medical aid; transporting people to hospitals and medical facilities following these storms.  It was pretty intense.  My heart goes out to the victims and those who lost loved ones or pets.  These same states seem to get hit every week, but at least most of the storms weren’t as bad as…

Not A Bad Friday Afternoon For Mid Michigan

Not A Bad Friday Afternoon For Mid Michigan

It isn’t very warm today but light winds make it comfortable.  We received a little rain overnight but barely enough to get things wet.  Today has been cloudy but dry.  Tomorrow is expected to be a big mess with a rain/snow mix and very strong winds.  This seems to happen every weekend lately.  I think that it will be mostly rain, but we could see a little accumulation tomorrow night.  It will probably melt right away so no big deal. …

A Little Overnight Rain For Mid Michigan

A Little Overnight Rain For Mid Michigan

We received 0.24″ of rain overnight, and it has been dry since then.  It’s a bit of a dreary day but the temperature is mild and winds are light.  Not bad for being out and about.  They have even removed rain from our forecast  for the rest of today and tonight.  Unfortunately, they haven’t removed the “snow” word from this weekend’s forecast, although it’s expected to be a rain/snow mix, so I guess we can live with that. Our 2:15…

Cloudy With Rain On The Way For Mid Michigan

Cloudy With Rain On The Way For Mid Michigan

After a lovely Tuesday, today won’t be quite as nice.  Although it is dry right now, we are expecting showers to move in later in the day.  Highs will still make it into the low 50s, and that should last through most of the week.  Cooler temps will arrive for the weekend and there is even a chance of snow possible.  Since this is still March, we have to expect that.  The next few days could be on the wet…

Mostly Cloudy With Some Sun Shining Through – Mid Michigan

Mostly Cloudy With Some Sun Shining Through – Mid Michigan

We have a sky full of clouds, but somehow, the sun has been out most of the morning.  We will see highs well into the 50s today, and it should be a very nice day.  I think I’ll take the dog out to run in the yard.  I think she has cabin fever, and the only thing she cares about lately is food.  There is no rain expected until possibly tonight, and definitely tomorrow.  Our lawn has been taken over…
