I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
A Beautiful November Day In Mid Michigan

A Beautiful November Day In Mid Michigan

This morning began with dense fog, but the sun burned it off and it turned into a mostly sunny, mild afternoon.  We do have a thin cloud cover but not enough to hide the sun, and winds are very light.  Today was supposed to be a washout, but we lucked out and the rain forecast was pushed back a day.  Today is our first on Eastern Standard Time, and it seemed so good to be bright at 8AM for a…

Shaping Up To Be a Beautiful Saturday – Mid Michigan

Shaping Up To Be a Beautiful Saturday – Mid Michigan

After some overnight rain, our afternoon has become partly sunny with mild temperatures.  Also winds are expected to be light, so wind chill values will be insignificant.  This is a good day to get out and do any last minute  chores that need to be done before winter.  Also, rain chances for tomorrow are less than previously expected, so the weekend may be a good one. Our 1 PM temperature is 54°F (12°C), the humidity is 74%, and skies are…

Cloudy But Mild For Mid Michigan

Cloudy But Mild For Mid Michigan

Today would be lovely if not for the strong wind.  We had a little sun this morning, but that’s gone now and clouds have taken over.  Radar is showing some rain up north but none is expected here.  I think We’ve had enough for a while. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 57°F (14°C), the humidity id 43% and skies are cloudy.  Winds are from the SW at 8-19 mph, and visibility is 16 miles.  The pressure is 29.88 in…

Partly Sunny And Mild, Snow Gone – Mid Michigan

Partly Sunny And Mild, Snow Gone – Mid Michigan

It didn’t take long for the Halloween snow to disappear.  There was just a trace this morning but even that is gone now.  If not for the wind, today would have been very pleasant.  At least we saw quite a bit of sun and that helped to make it feel warmer.  Sun also helps to brighten our moods with these darker days of autumn.  Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend and that makes me happy.  I personally hate it. Our…

A White Halloween For Mid Michigan

A White Halloween For Mid Michigan

We had heavy to moderate snowfall yesterday that lasted a few hours.  When it finally stopped, there was 1.8″ on my deck.  I don’t ever remember having this much snow on Halloween.  This morning feels more like January that the first of November, but temps are expected to rise into the low 40s, so the snow should be short-lived. Our 9:30 AM temperature is 26°F (-3°C), the humidity is 94%, and skies are clear.  Winds are calm and the dew…

A Wintry Feel To Our Halloween – Mid Michigan

A Wintry Feel To Our Halloween – Mid Michigan

We had our first wintry precipitation yesterday.  It was graupel.  Some areas reported snow flurries but I didn’t see any; but I definitely had graupel hitting my windshield as I was driving.  It didn’t last long and melted on contact.  We are promised to see some snow today, mainly this afternoon, although no accumulations are expected.  Not a good forecast for the kids tonight. Our 12 noon temperature is 38°F (3°C), the humidity is 67%, and skies are cloudy.  Winds…

Mostly Cloudy And Cold – Mid Michigan

Mostly Cloudy And Cold – Mid Michigan

I’m seeing where northern lower Michigan has about one inch of snow cover.  As for us, we had a graupel shower while I was out this morning. It didn’t last long but it happened.  It is mostly cloudy but the sun has peeked through a few times.  Tomorrow is the day when we could see our first snowfall.  One weather site is saying that we could get between a trace to an inch of snow cover.  I’m not ready to…

Another Cloudy, Cool Day – Mid Michigan

Another Cloudy, Cool Day – Mid Michigan

The only bright thing about today is my lovely yellow maple tree.  It always hangs onto it’s leaves longer than most others, and gives us something brilliant about an otherwise gloomy day.  Temperatures aren’t even expected to reach into the 50s today and it feels like November.  The wind and rain has stripped most leaves off the trees, but most of the hardwoods retain some.  I’m hearing that the UP had some snow overnight and we could see some flurries…

Clouds And Sun For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Clouds And Sun For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

A cloudy morning became a partly cloudy afternoon.  Although it is quite chilly, the sun makes it seem more pleasant.  Today is the first of what appears to be a lengthy stretch of cool weather.  I’m not seeing  any above normal temps in the upcoming days.  We were a bit spoiled by those that we had, but now it’s time to go back to reality. Our 2:45 PM temperature is 51°F (11°C), the humidity is 62%, and skies are partly…

Our Last Warm Day With A Little Sun – Mid Michigan

Our Last Warm Day With A Little Sun – Mid Michigan

Today is really quite nice.  It is warm enough to go out without a jacket and we are seeing the sun often.  Can’t complain at all.  We do have a chance for some rain but it’s been dry so far.  It is a bit breezy but a nice day to have the windows open.  In fact, this may be our last. Our 2:30 PM temperature is 73°F (23°C), the humidity is 73%, and skies are mostly cloudy.  Winds are from…
