More Snow For Mid Michigan

More Snow For Mid Michigan

Saturday brought us light intermittent snow showers resulting in an inch of snow cover this morning.  We could see a little more this afternoon but no significant amounts are expected.  There is just enough to brighten things up a little.  We don’t need anymore.  Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to say in the matter.  There is no warm up in the extended forecast, so it looks like this snow will be around for awhile.  It’s amazing how people forget that…

A White World This Morning in Mid Michigan

A White World This Morning in Mid Michigan

Our morning seems nice and bright with the newly fallen snow.  We only have 1/2 inch on the ground, but it does a lot for making the day seem brighter.  I really do like snow this time of the year.  With our hours of daylight at a minimum,  anything that lightens up our world is welcome.  We have light snow falling at this time and it is pretty. Our 9 AM temp is 24.6°F (-4°C), the humidity is 88%, and…

Michigan’s First Snowstorm of the Season

Michigan’s First Snowstorm of the Season

Although my area only received a trace of snow overnight,  it was a different story for northern Michigan.  With lake effect snow squalls moving over the state most of  Wednesday, there was a range of different reports on CoCoRahs this morning in terms of snow amounts.  Mancelona appeared to have the most with 12 inches on the ground.  Gaylord, which is just to the east of Mancelona, was reporting only 6 inches.   Traverse City reported 4.5 inches.  In the UP,…

Very Windy and Cold in Mid Michigan

Very Windy and Cold in Mid Michigan

I am so tired of wind!  We had gusts up to 50 mph yesterday and many areas lost power.  The northern part of the state has been under a winter storm warning since yesterday and that will continue until 5 PM today.  I’m not seeing many reports of huge snow amounts as yet on CoCoRahs.  The most that I’m finding is 8 inches in Calumet up in the Keweenaw Peninsula.  Northern lower Michigan is only reporting about an inch or…

Falling Temperatures, Wind Advisory For Mid Michigan

Falling Temperatures, Wind Advisory For Mid Michigan

After a very warm Monday, a line of showers moved through the state early this morning bringing falling temperatures and a little rain.  There was only 0.04″ in my gauge this morning, but wind will be our issue today.  Our highest overnight temp was at midnight as temps continued to drop throughout the night.  Although they are still quite mild, temperatures will continue to drop as the day goes on.  There is very frigid air coming our way and the…

Big Changes Coming To Mid Michigan

Big Changes Coming To Mid Michigan

We better enjoy today’s mild temperatures because they won’t be around much longer.  A strong cold front will be moving in from Canada and we will be doing well to see highs above freezing by the week’s end.  Yesterday was a lovely day with plenty of sun and light winds.  We spent the afternoon in the Detroit area with my kids, and there was a lot of outdoor activity with the nice weather.  So many have already gotten their Christmas…

A Sunny, Pleasant Sunday For Mid Michigan

A Sunny, Pleasant Sunday For Mid Michigan

I’m afraid that our nice autumn weather will be coming to an end this week.  The extended forecast is showing highs not much above freezing by week’s end.  Meteorological winter began on Dec. 1 and it’s really going to feel like it after Wednesday.  There is also snow in the forecast although no estimates of any accumulation so far.  Today is be a winner, however, with mild temps and a high in the low 50s. Our 10:15 AM EST temp…

Sunny But Cold For Our First of December – Mid Michigan

Sunny But Cold For Our First of December – Mid Michigan

We have a beautiful morning for our start of December.  This month is often the turn-around month for our autumn to winter weather.  November will usually still be quite mild, but December can be either mild or stormy.  So far, we have lucked out with nice weather, but our local meteorologist is warning us to expect a change next week.  It sounds like winter will finally arrive.  I still have the lawn swing out but I guess it’s time to…

A Little Rain For Our Thursday Morning – Mid Michigan

A Little Rain For Our Thursday Morning – Mid Michigan

This morning is dark and wet with showers moving in about 8 AM.  Radar is showing that the rain won’t last long and skies should be clearing later this morning.  It shouldn’t be too bad of a day.  Highs will be above average once again and winds will be moderate.  This is the last day of November and we haven’t had anything to complain about so far this Fall-Winter season.  I hope that it continues as such with no extremes. …

Possible Records Broken Yesterday – Mid Michigan

Possible Records Broken Yesterday – Mid Michigan

Local meteorologists were saying that new records were set yesterday regarding high temps, but I have found different data.  The high in Flint was 66°F but we didn’t get quite that warm here where I am.  I live in the country and I know that it is always a little warmer in town.  The data that I have found shows a record high of 70°F for yesterday’s date set back in 1905.  Regardless, it was very warm, almost to the…
