Mid Michigan Weather, June 1 2017

Today is the first day of summer, meteorlogically speaking, and it looks like it will be a good one.  There is no rain expected and decreased winds from what we have been having.  It’ll be a good day for finishing my planting even though my back is still very sore.

I’m still having problems with this new site.  I tried to add a picture and it still isn’t happening.  I don’t know what I did wrong.  Maybe I need  step-by-step instructions.  Could someone help me with that?

Our 9 AM temperature is 55.6°F, the humidity is 63% and winds are calm.  The pressure is 30.08″ and rising.  The dew point is 45°F and skies are clear.  Visibility is 10 miles.  Yesterday’s high was 68°F and the overnight low was 48°F.  The record high for May 31 is 104°F set in 1934, and the record low is 33°F set in 1966.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the derecho that rapidly moved from South Dakota to New York back in 1998.  It moved through my area about 6:30 AM that Sunday morning.  I knew it was coming and had to work that day at the hospital.  I got up early so that I could beat it, and it hit right after I walked in the door at the hospital.  I’ll always remember the sound.  The power went out as I was walking back to the ER, and it took the generator about 10 seconds to kick in, so I was in total darkness for a few seconds.  Winds reached 130 mph in some places but our official wind gust was 90 mph.  Needless to say, we saw quite a few storm related injuries that morning.  I remember looking out the window and seeing many trees down in the woods behind the hospital.   Our house had no power for 4 days, but many were without for up to two weeks.  What was interesting is that my horse stood out through the whole storm.  She could have gone in the barn but didn’t.
